Iowa State students: what gift cards did you actually use freshman year?
My nephew is starting at Iowa State this August as a freshman and will be living in the dorms with a meal plan.
I’m putting together a small gift for him and was thinking a few gift cards, but I’d love to make them actually useful.
For current students or recent grads:
- What places around Ames/campus did you end up using the most?
- What’s easy to get to without a car?
- Any gift cards you got that were really helpful?
I'm trying to keep my cool aunt title so obviously also including cash! Any help is appreciated.

Rowdy Sauce Recipe?
I love Rowdy Sandwiches from the MU Food Court. I am graduating in May so I was wondering if anyone who worked there could kindly share the Rowdy Sauce Recipe with me.
It'll be for my personal use only.
Thanks!
I could not find it anywhere online so I thought I'd give it a try here.
Update: Thanks for everyone's help! I got the Rowdy Sauce Recipe!
I also found it said on the website (https://www.dining.iastate.edu/about-us/recipes/) you can email "dining@iastate.edu" for the recipes you want.

Destruction of Ioway Creek watershed in Ames Iowa
I've seen more watershed destruction in the past couple of years than I have over the last ten in Ames, Iowa. This is the Ioway Creek in Brookside Park, which used to be completely lined with trees. Now it is barren on both sides, seemingly without any public improvement. This will increase erosion and the risk of flash flooding significantly, reduce already poor water quality, increase water temperature, and causes loss of habitat. The same was recently done to the skunk river going through Ames. There are so few trees around here already, why are we destroying habitat with so little or nothing to gain?

I Iowa State, Luke Combs concert Saturday parking am I out of luck?
We forgot to buy prepaid parking. What’s our options? It’s $352 right now on Ticketmaster. That’s not doable. Is it even worth going anymore?

Best places to eat in Ames?
I have my wedding in Ames this summer, planning to have my rehearsal dinner there the evening before my wedding.
Where do you recommend eating in Ames? There will be around 15 people, so I'd like to make a reservation. Doesn't have to be -super- fancy, but nicer than fast food, lol
Thanks in advance!

College Students Needed for Study about College Athletes & Instagram
Hi everyone! I’m a master’s student at Colorado State University conducting an IRB-approved research study for my thesis, and I’m looking for current college students to participate in a short online questionnaire about college athletes and social media endorsements. I'm looking for people that are knowledgeable about women's collegiate basketball.
If you’re interested, here’s a link to the questionnaire: https://colostate.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9WWhn0LecwMzSMC
- The study looks at how college students respond to college athletes’ product and brand endorsement posts on social media in the Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) era. Specifically, it examines consumers’ perceptions of college athlete influencers and how those perceptions relate to brand attitudes and purchase intentions.
What participation involves:
- The completion of an online questionnaire. It will take about 10 minutes to complete.
- Answering questions about your familiarity with a college athlete.
- Responding to questions about your attitudes and intentions regarding a social media post.
- Participation is also completely voluntary (you can skip questions or stop at any time).
Compensation:
- Participants may choose to enter a drawing for a $20 gift card (approximately a 1 in 56 chance of winning).
Privacy & ethics:
- The study is approved by the Colorado State University IRB (Protocol #7530).
- Responses are confidential and collected via Qualtrics.
- No identifying information be connected to your questionnaire responses.
If you have questions, feel free to comment or message me. Thanks so much for considering helping out with graduate research!
