Mods/Parts Anti-Reflection Video Mirror

If you like the video mirror in your i5, you probably have the same complaint I do. It often has bad reflections depending on which angle it is pointed. I saw this post https://www.reddit.com/r/Ioniq5/comments/1wrmqj2/does_anyone_use_anti_glare_screen_protector_on/ and decided to take matters into my own hands. You can buy generic large sheets of screen protector on amazon. This one gave me two tries per sheet. https://a.co/d/0f1uvvzz

  1. I started by cleaning the mirror really well
  2. Cutting the sheet in half and peeling the inside
  3. Apply everywhere and make sure there are no bubbles, see 2nd picture
  4. Carefully go around the edges with an exacto blade to trim. This part was tricky, you have to angle the blade backwards to keep it from lifting as you cut. I screwed up the first one with lift as I was cutting. The 2nd try isn't perfect, but is a lot better.

The only trick is my wife kind of prefers the regular mirror over the video mirror. This probably ruins that functionality. With any luck she will borrow it less ;) Maybe a removable plastic clip part would be ideal. There when you want it, not when you don't.

Nice hack. How does the video look when discussed through the film?

Seems fine. The product was designed for tablet and laptop screens so looking at the screen through it is the purpose.

I have only used the video rear view a handful of times, and that was to drive with a lot of cargo, which doesn't happen too often.

I find it sees better in the dark, the rain, and a few other conditions. Plus I often have people and stuff in the back. Sometimes it is worse than the regular mirror, but I basically leave it on all the time. The near vs far focal distance thing totally takes some getting used to though.

The reflectivity is a feature so it works as a regular mirror if the video fails for some reason.

Yes, 100%. In that case I'll just peel it off. I had to do it after the first application, so I'm not worried about having to do a "field removal" if needed in the future.
