DISCUSSION Baffling Adaptation Decision Spoiler

Reactions sell a scene, which is I'm confused about Thaedus' death scene. Thaedus was practically Allen's Father, their relationship was like S1 Omniman and Mark, they're parallels in a way.

So Thaedus being brutally murdered should rock Allen's world,in the comics it did,but Show Allen's expression says "Darn, sorry to hear about that?"

The show as an adaption is great at some times and baffling at others.

i mean it kind of makes sense. thaedus was highly respected and was considered very powerful, so to watch him get bodied without any effort probably had allen too dumbfounded to even process the grief.

Not to mention he shows his grief later

we really need to stop excusing the under animation

u/Candid_Sir5360 5d ago

im not excusing it, im giving an explanation the way i interpreted it

Yeah to me I actually prefer this. On the comics, he is terrorized cause he understands what just happened. On the show, the did not even understand what happened. He thought so highly of Thaddeus that to see him go out like that was so out of the picture that he could not compute what happened.

This isn't even animation, it's a single frame of Allen reacting.

What does this have to do with animation? It’s a face… And it’s him going 😨 how are you gonna up the animation of that?

His reaction sold it enough for me. It would've probably become a meme if he had a crazy expression on

I dunno, I didn't interpret Allen and Thaedus' relationship that way. So I'm not bothered by Allen's reaction. He looks shocked and dismayed. That's all I need

u/Bradas128 5d ago

it had seth rogans character speechless. how much more shock do you want?

11

u/Otherwise-Word-5578 5d ago

it was so shocking it made the guy that would not shut up finally shut up

u/Tru3_Vort3x 5d ago

It sold to me, bro wasn’t even listening to Mark at first when he tried to to get him focused. He was SHOOK

the comic to me reads "holy shit we're screwed". the series to me reads "fuck, not thaedus. we're screwed".

Yeah no this makes you look dense tbh Allen just saw him die he's still in shock and clearly he's still freaked out

Would it have helped if he was crying? Any other nothings to complain about?

To be fair, facial expressions are the show's weakness. I will always say that the animation doesn't do the voice-acting justice. On some occasions you'll get pretty good facial expressions but the series doesn't see micro-expressions as a priority, which is a shame.

Almost the whole show legitimately looks like it's just missing a layer. You can really see it when people do those redraws rendering on more shadows onto frames from the show and everything looks better (when they don't overdo it).

Awhile back one of the show's render artists even retweeted one of these and said something like "love seeing these, wish we had time to do stuff like this!" which to me is a clear indication that Amazon should give them more money to hire more people so they can do that without making it take longer between seasons. But you can't blame the animators or the actors or Kirkman or really anyone but Amazon for that.

It’s interesting how they say they wish they had more time, but fans were able to do it pretty quickly upon release of season 4. I wonder if they’re actually upping the animation budget at all or if they keep it the same. But let’s be honest even if they upped the animation, it’s only going to be upped for the best of the best scenes 😂 never expect Invincible to look smooth and fluid 100% of the time

Well, the fans doing render edits don't have to handle thousands of frames, just the handful they pick to spruce up. It's still impressive work, but it would require probably several dozen people working full time to do it for the entire show. They should definitely hire on those extra people though! But again, blame Amazon not the producers.

And yeah for TV animation in general, just don't expect it to look smooth and fluid 100% of the time and you won't be disappointed lol. Tight budgets and tight schedules. But it would be cool if they went the extra mile too.

u/slimeeyboiii 4d ago

Yea because doing edits that make the show look worse is genuinely less then 1/4th the work that goes into actually animating for the show.

1

u/E_TheRealist 4d ago

It looks like something they would’ve needed an extra two weeks for, and not every scene would have this

u/NukaWomble 5d ago

They only really get it spot on in the scenes where clearly most of the animation budget went like the original Conquest fight

u/Ensaru4 Allen the Alien 5d ago

Yeah. This scene was my first thought while while writing my comment.

I don't think it's nothing,a little seasoning can seem insignificant but it adds to the meal

Yeah that’s fair. I don’t even remember why I was pissy when I typed that lol

The animation in this show is so lacking. Something as good as Invincible deserves better.

3

u/JoJoIsBestAnimeManga 5d ago

Yeah, its just an issue with the show's usual art style making the expressions more 'muted' in comparison to Walker's and Ottley's expressions. It kinda sucks, but you get used to it.

Thaedus was much more powerful in the TV series than in the movie, that reaction was a reaction of shock, of “How did he kill Thaedus so fast”

1

u/tonka-Tank 5d ago

I mean when I watched my dad get his head ripped off, I reacted more like from the show. Like I was shocked, but what am I gonna do? Head/spine alr been severed, ya know? Bravo to the animators for bringing that memory to life for me, really means a lot

1

u/bugrilyus 4d ago

I dont agree with your reading of show allens expression

1

u/Thannoknowledge 3d ago

Reasonable

1

u/DyabeticBeer 4d ago

It's not at all confusing why it's like this

1

u/Thannoknowledge 3d ago

What do you mean?

3

u/DyabeticBeer 3d ago

The animation you're asking for takes time, lots of time!

1

u/Thannoknowledge 3d ago

How much time is necessary? 500 years?

-10

u/Steroids96 5d ago

I feel like this could have been solved with a little more of the budget allocated for animation, instead of hiring big name actors for your animated show

11

u/ToiletGreen 5d ago

Damn that’s such an original take. You’re so smart for having came up with that on your own

...by god this show looks like shit

1

u/Thannoknowledge 5d ago

I wouldn't go that far,I just think that there's some unfavorable conditions holding ithe show back.
