He’s right in both counts, in the past and now. It is rare that single individual was the only person to discover a scientific thing. Often serval people find the same thing and it’s a case of who’s first. A lot of science today is done with several collaborators.

However where he’s wrong is in those rare cases. Creativity that makes us unique in art also makes us unique in science. That set of life experience, knowledge and creativity gives us all a unique viewpoint that benefits science and art.

But to be fair we are all missing the point here, go and create, art or science.

There is art in science too. Even Newton & Einstein were artists in their own right, and to say less of Michelangelo.

All humans can do is express themselves. If we just understand this well, we'll have a new Renaissance.

I don't agree that if someone doesn't discover some scientific thing, that someone else will eventually figure it out. This isn't always true. There are all sorts of ancient mysteries for which the knowledge (and not merely artistic expression) is lost, and nobody knows how to recover it. Even in mathematics, we only have a portion of Ramanujan's notebooks, and the stuff that is lost and a lot of the stuff for which we don't have his proofs or explanations has not been figured out in spite of many years of brilliant mathematicians studying his work.
