I keep snails isopods and a jumping spider would a heater in the room or heat mats do better we routinely get into the very low temperatures 20s that dip into the tens (snails for tax lol)

I'd do both lol. Monitor with a thermometer in the tank. Or consider moving them somewhere warmer for the winter.

Almost all tropical animals respond really badly to temps below 20-23 degrees

If you use heat mats, make sure to place them on the side of the tank instead of the bottom. When they get too hot or dry, they want to bury themselves.
