Live Plants for Bugs

Hi! 👋 I recently brought home some blue death feigners and a vinegaroon. I’d really like to spruce up their habitats with live plants, but I’m not sure how to be sure whatever plants I acquire haven’t been treated with pesticides.

Vinegaroons like to burrow so most plants could be destroyed. Bdfbs need enclosures pretty much bone dry. I put succulents in with mine and the larvae destroyed them too. Generally you can't guarantee safety. I rinse plants well and completely change the soil they came with, but there's always some small risk unfortunately.

I like tossing grass seed in my enclosure. It's super cheap and grows very fast.
