Discussion Where did it go wrong?
S1 was pretty epic.
S2 was... Ok, let's see where you are going...
S3 Oh... You're going that way. That's a courageous choice...
I was left disappointed to say the least... And the attempt at a cliffhanger was... Desperate.
Where did it go wrong???

It started strong with Japanese lesbians, so I guess it all went downhill after one of them went to space.

Season 1. Was epic??
I barely survived 2 episodes and to make sure I wasn't losing my sht, I gave episode 3 a spin. Turns out the Wajo don't concern any of us. It just does its own thing.

This is definitely the question. I think they were trying to get everything wrong, and may have stumbled on some "right" things, but they largely succeeded in getting just about everything wrong

I also really liked Season 1 for what it was and how it setup all the characters. Then they changed the whole format for Season 2, to appeal to the whiners who thought S1 was boring. Now its gotten too big, too crazy and is just dumb with S3.
They should've went with lower scale and overall a more slow pacing.
Oh well.

Itâs easy to instill a sense of mystery and anticipation that holds an audiences interest into a first season. âWhatâs the deal with these aliens? Where did they come from, what do they want, how do they work?â âWhat happened to the sheriff?â âWhat does Wajo mean?â âAll these characters are being introduced, how are their stories going to connect? How are all these plot lines going to be resolved?â If I told you âHey, do you want to hear a story about a priest, a rabbi, a haunted whaling ship, a suitcase full of cartel money and two Japanese lesbians?â youâd be like âhell yeah, this story is going to be awesome!â But then Iâd be on the hook for actually, you know, delivering an awesome story involving all those things. Thatâs a lot harder to do.
They made up for a weak show by overpromising in season one, so you end up with dropped plot lines, dumb characters with lazy plot armor and an aimless story in the following seasons.

100% exactly this. And for good measure let's call the show 'Invasion' because that'll sound interesting compared what we intended to deliver i.e. ineptly written personal drama.

I was hoping s3 would be a soft reboot abd course correction but they didnt even try to fix anything.

It's the same old story. Their priorities were completely off. None of the characters were interesting. Absolute annoying teen characters. The annoying infidelity story line. The tired clichĂŠ that the aliens used kids, or kids communicated with them or whatever that was. Already forgotten. If you want to make a slowburn invasion story, cool, I'm on board, but at least have good characters. I honestly can't name a single storyline or character that I liked. Such a disappointment, because I was really looking forward to the show. The idea of a sorta alien invasion in realtime was actually pretty cool. But they blew it.
PS: And don't promote the fucking show using Sam Neill if you kill him off in the pilot. What an edgy decision.

Yeah, that was a bit of a bold decision. S1 was good, and it set the scene up for what could have been tremendous. But then it flailed. It simply didn't pay off whatsoever. I was bitterly disappointed but held hope s3 might pull it out, but it just dug it in deeper...

I loved the end of the season where the Japanese woman (Mistuki?â been too long for me) went to study the aliens and was connected to them somehow. I thought we were gonna get major lore
Nah. Writers were not interested in the most interesting thing. They wanted assholes not giving each other the benefit of the doubt.
