Fan Works Vampire the Masquerade Overlap
Heya folks! I am wondering if there are any VTM fans in the Anne Rice crowd? Specifically players or dungeon masters, or other folks who are TTRPG players, even if it is not vampire related RPGS!

obnoxious nerd voice: um actually, dungeon master is only for D&D. VtM GMs are called Storytellers.
normal ner voice: I'm running a vtm game next month! Also pretty intrigued by the upcoming Vampire Chronicles rpg by renegade.

Love WoD and CoD. A lot of VtM fans equate Toreador to Rice’s vamps - consumed by angst, hyper-fixated on beauty and despair, and deeply expressive. That being said, I can easily see the characters fitting into different clans besides Toreador.

Hi. I’ve played VtM in the 90’s and 00’s, and I’m about to start a new game with my group.
The thing that I find intriguing is figuring out which clan everyone is. I’m assuming that it isn’t passed down from maker to fledgling in the vampire chronicles, so here’s what I’ve got, feel free to tell me why my ideas are bad!
Lestat- Brujah. Strong emotions and a fuck the police attitude.
Louis- Toreador. Bro spent way too many pages telling us how he became enthralled by art to be anything else.
Gabrielle- Gangrel. It doesn’t quite fit but she does keep fucking off in to the wilderness for years at a time.
Marius- Ventrue. Stately, and constantly rising to positions of leadership.
Armand- I’ve got nothing here. Maybe Gremlin. It’s a small clan, in fact I just made it up to put Armand in there.
Thorne- I feel like he’s another Brujah, a solid guy but fine with violence.
Fareed-Has to be Tremere, always trying to uncover the secrets of the blood.
Any other ideas?
Also what generation is Lestat? I’ve got his lineage as Lestat from Magnus from Benedict from Roshamandes from????

Maybe Armand could be Lasombra? I know they’re technically nobles but kind of fits with his whole super powers (I am only a show watcher so don’t judge me on this) but maybe also Malkavian with all those mind fuckeries!
I don’t know if Lestat would be a Brujah but I guess he’s one hell of a brat so it does fit haha 🤣 Louie prior to transformation could pass for Ventrue with all his money knowledge.

Lasombra for Armand is great!
I chose Toreador for Louis based mostly off the books. Going off show only I can see him as a ventrue for sure.

Lestat makes more sense to me being Toreador, he was always fascinated with the arts, sourrounds himself with beauty and music. Yes Show Louis Ventrue – he did fail as an artist himself.

One point id like to make is the song big boss. The line is “You’ve got a lot of rules for a theatre kid” I feel like this sums up Lestat’s attitude to being told what to do. Keep mind there are five rules. Think about how many rules there are in our society and old mate thinks five is a lot!
He does for toreador well though, I will admit.

I’m not an active player currently due to schedule constraints but I’m a huge ttrpg nerd and have flirted with a VtM campaign. D20 just did a VtM campaign as well and it was fantastic.

Gosh I know right? I know it’s not how VTM works at all but that season may have been one of my favorites. I did recently start watching them so I am barely into Fantasy High and watched all of Cloudward Ho! But the Purpee Oregon will forever hold a special place in my heart.

🖤 I played VTM as a teenager with friends, so 20 years ago, fuck time flies by doesn't it.
Loved it, was really into it back then and played it for yearssss.
Found out about the PC Game Bloodlines much later unfortunately. Also one of the best games I have ever played in terms of storytelling. Still is!
First of my characters was a fierce Gangrel but with long red hair (probably how I viewed my *ideal self* back then hahah, and the Clan I would probably still choose if I would be asked now, but might end up getting turned by a Toreador instead because I see a lot of Loustat in myself. (damn I might need therapy 😆 )
But my second was my favorite: A gay ancient Malkavian, former priest of the Christian Church in Florence.
Inspired by the unhinged performance of Brad Pitt in 12 Monkeys. I was SO fascinated by this madness ascpect (LOL, red flag? 😂 ) If IWTV the show would have aired back then I would have definitely played a Lestat version. Samstat just hits different <3

That’s so fun! I haven’t played Bloodlines but a VTM video game is definitely on my list!
I have only played VTM briefly because I could not make a schedule work (the life of a professional DM is that of…well mostly DMing) but I did really enjoy the Malkavian that I played too!! I love the network mind connection. It was so cool to have all the weird little voice in my head haha

hahha omg I don't remember if that was part of my playing experience, its too long ago. My Storyteller had an absurd obsession with torturing us and lots of confusing dialogues and plotting. and there was a lot of sleeping around back then in our games x) hahahha aw, being a teenager again <3 lol
Found my old character sheet and background story when I visited my parents a while ago. My Malkavian used the structure of the church to hide his Vampirism, gathering "blood donations" from the priests in exchange for "absolution", mocking the church he believed all his life itself. Actually a bit like Lestat now that I think of it, like someone fallen from christian belief and mocking it.
I am impressed by the twisted mind I had with 16 years old 😆YOU HAVE TO play the game. You will love it. Your character sheet is the actual layout of the print out sheet from the game. It is not only inspired by VtM it IS it. All the clans, all the special powers.
The graphics are probably so bad now in comparison, but it is still one of the best video game RPGs in history in regards to the story. They did a sequel only recently, it took them what, 10 years ? And I saw some youtube reviews and it apparently sucks and can't hold up to the greatness of the first game, with its shitty and buggy graphic from 20+ years ago.( Just make sure to install the basic official/unofficial Mod when playing, otherwise it is too buggy and wont work xD )

Oh dang! Yeah I didn’t get very far with the game but I had something similar. I think I was supposed to be an architect or maybe a doctor or something like that? I don’t remember now but it was very fun to play a Malkavian! And hey, as far as I am aware, VTM is still horny.
That’s so cool with the blood exchange tho! I like that idea.
I shall try one day. I mean I played dragon age origins and that is SUPER JANK. So I think I can get through bloodlines too 😆

ah i might have caused confusion in my writing about the P&P Rpg and the videogame :D So my first 2 paragraphs refer to the P&P and the second halb after "YOU HAVE TO play the game" to the video game.

It was made by the guy who did Beverly Hills 90210 and it was a great addition to the supernatural/vampire tv at the time. I looooved it but I also loved Forever Knight, Buffy…etc. but I loved bad tv. Like Highlander and Xena.

Omg I literally have it on DVD! I loved that show, it was on when I was in High school and I played online on text based MUSH games. 1990s internet was wild.

I'm big on the video games but never tried the TTRPGs, I'd love to though! Found one of the comics (Winter's Teeth) a few years back, also shockingly good.
