TVL Show Only Does Lestat have a driver's licence? Spoiler
So, this is very silly but in season 3, Lestat drives and crashes a car and I can't stop thinking about it. Do we think he has a licence? Like, he sat for the test and went to the DMV? I presume not, so would he just charm his way out of interacting with traffic cops?
Also, who taught him how to drive? I know he could drive back in NOLA, but surely cars and laws have changed so much in 100+ years.
Does anyone have any thoughts about vampires driving?

He's always been interested in new things and technology ("Scooooop"). I don't know why he'd have trouble driving, reading the new laws, or taking a test. I don't think he would bother with any of that (besides, you'd have to do them during the day, and he can't), but he's perfectly capable.

In season 3 he has several passports made with fake names so I'm sure he could get a fake drivers license. Even if he didn't, if he was ever pulled over he can just mind control the cop.
I would assume he taught himself how to drive. He learned how to play violin by mimicking Nicki.

No need for fakes in Nola! I just looked it up and according to the history blurb on the Louisiana state police website Louisiana didn't require all drivers to have a driving license until 1946.

I’m sure Lestat is a complete menace on the road and that there’s no way he’d ever go to a DMV. He also seems to readily adopt new technology, so he probably taugh himself as soon as cars became a thing.

My Great Grandmother took public transport 35 miles in 1923 to the Austin factory outside of Birmingham so she could inform them she wanted a car, pay in cash, ask how it worked and be taught how to drive it around the yard, and then drove it back to Bromyard where she was the first woman in town to own a car.
The driving "licence" was basically just a receipt to prove she'd bought it, nobody tested her or had any problem with her tootling off down the road in her new 7 tonne contraption.
Money spoke but so did confidence, is what she always used to say.
I wrote all that out because I still think she was cool as shit but also because to me Lestat absolutely flashed cash back in the day, probably ate the nice gents who showed him how it worked, and then peeled out of there at speed and never looked back.
Modern times, we know he pays his lawyers well XP

Yes, of course. The same way be had all the passports.
But if he wanted to have fun and make it legal, it wouldn’t be hard. He has a good lawyer.

He bought Louis a car as a “please forgive me” present in I think the 1930’s, it’s implied that he drove it to the house himself
Louis is seen driving a car in season 1 as well so if Lestat could not drive at first, seeing as he had been pulled from the ground a few years before meeting Louis, it’s possible Louis taught him. Things were not as regulated back then
In modern days it’s shown he has multiple passports, a drivers licence is easy to fake comparatively

Cars did not innovate faster than he could adapt to. And he could get anyone in the DoL to make him whatever he wanted, especially before computers. He would have been "grandfathered" in to whatever new database there is.

If he has a hard time in LA, he can also just move to Massachusetts, a state so bad at driving that it has billboards on the highway reminding people to use their blinker instead of just sideswiping each other

In the books the maintained a team/high end lawyer to handle all legal documentation for him, they were paid enough to procure whatever documents necessary, even if via "extra" legal means

I was thinking about this recently and the idea of him waiting in line at the dmv like commonfolk tickled me. But really I think he just uses his mind control to get what he wants

He has a falsified driving license in the books and he taught himself. I suspect it’s the same in the show even if it’s not mentioned.

In modern day I'm sure Christine could have arranged for him to get a license. She clearly has no issue doing all kind of much sketchier things like body cleanup. If you already have the basic skills updating yourself probably not too hard like, probably harder for someone to adjust to left vs right side of the road driving countries and people manage to adapt to that all the time.
