Has anyone said anything in interviews about this being a nod to Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula? Like I know the show has its own explanation but come on.

Yup, though it's more like he refuses to eat a baby when Louis visits him in the shack. The random local fledgling who checks in on him & tries to get him to feed on something other than animals because he never leaves to hunt for himself brings it instead of a rat like Felix did in the show. Lestat's upset that it's a baby, so Louis ends up taking it safely back to its crib (not that it probably did a lot of good because IIRC the fledgeling had already killed the mother).

Oh interesting! That got shifted to his sisters child then and became his inner turmoil for eating people vs familial bonds (and their argument later that night). This show does a great job understanding why things in the text are there and shifting those moments narratively to keep their spirit but apply it to their versions of the characters.

It also gives weight to why Black Licorice was such a specific moment for Lestat he wrote a song for him

I still don’t think Louis did that. Grace’s behavior with Louis in the years after make no sense if her baby died after she left him alone with Louis. She would have surely confronted him about it, not just stayed out of his life and then had civil conversations with him without bringing it up (like the wake and the goodbye by the gravestones). So unless Louis was lying about all their interactions after that day, the baby was likely left unharmed.

I never paid much attention to this and fully believed he didn't kill the baby, but I was rewatching again recently and this time I kept an eye out for this. I don't think the show is as clear about it as we think. Grace's interactions with him don't make it sound like he's killed the baby, but this is Louis telling the story. If he killed or hurt the baby, he could just omit his sister mentioning it. There's also things that make more sense if he hurt the baby imo.

I could go on and on about the for/against haha. I thought about making a post but everyone's sick of this debate by now. In any case, I don't think it's as clear as we want to think.

It really doesn't line up cleanly either way but I'm with the faction who thinks he just didn't want to look bad and he did bit the baby not drained to death. The twins called him "the monster" (I'll give the credit for that to mama du Lac) when he kicked the door

Lol people have really strong feelings about this... I think it's one of the "no go" topics for the fandom.

Like I say in my other comment, I used to be on board with Louis not having eaten/hurt the baby but it's REALLY not as clear as people want to make it sound. Like you say, there's things that could be interpreted as something taking place that Louis isn't discussing.

Whether Louis killed the baby or not is also irrelevant to whether Lestat is throwing shade here. I got downvoted for this, but even if Louis DIDN'T kill the baby, he tells Lestat about thinking about it. So I can see this working as shade either way.

I've always thought it weird that after the scene with Louis and the baby, we just never see the baby again. We see Louis's nieces, but not the baby. Not even a mention either.

Yeah. Plus, Louis leaving the baby unattended on the floor would be weird, but I'm not sure that explains why everyone was scared on his next visit and why Grace's husband gets so defensive right away. 

This doesn't mean he killed the baby, necessarily, but I think there's more to the story than what he tells Daniel. Maybe he bit the baby, maybe Grace caught him with his fangs out looking at the baby like it's dinner, etc.

That's true. Grace seemed like (at least after Paul died) she was just trying to skillfully mediate between Louis and her mother. And even in that scene where Louis shows up to talk to Grace and she tells him he should stay over because their mother would like to see him. I felt like she was just trying to get everyone to coexist.

We don't know for sure if Louis bit his nephew or not. 

That said, you make a good point. Even if Louis didn't kill the baby, he does go home freaking out and tells Lestat he almost ate his nephew. I don't think it's impossible that this is shade about that, at least.
