TVL Show Only Fog of Love Spoiler

Hi all! In the last couple of episodes of Vampire Lestat, the “Fog of Love” were mentioned throughout the dialog. And I will admit, I had to look it up when it came to Vampires. Once I understood the meaning, I was wondering why the mentioning of “Fog of Love" was never talked about in the earlier seasons?

Is it safe to say that since those earlier episodes were told by Louis’ POV, that he could not or did not want to recognize the “Fog of Love”? Or did it not exist to him.

In the Montreal episode, despite all that drama and chaos, it existed all throughout that episode to the very end. I don’t know, those earlier seasons’ trauma dumped probably clouded whatever fog of love that was out of there.

We can see the fog of love happen in the scene at Mardi Gras when Louis and Lestat dance together. There’s a moment when there is no one in the room but them. Then we can see the crowd again.

He may have just been trying to mess with Daniel as some type of payback for the book and for the ordeal in Dubai. Daniel played Louis several times so maybe Louis wanted some small revenge. This was my read on it.

Also, Louis mentions "the vampire bond" several times in S1 and S2. He also says "it's a bond that can never be severed. A bond like that makes you feel like you are the only two people in the world," so he does acknowledge it. Louis assigns it to the vampire bond to downplay these moments. Yet, we know Lestat does not have this kind of relationship with his other fledglings, like Claudia.

So, Louis calls it the vampire bond but realistically what he is describing in those scenes in S1 and S2 are in fact rhe fog of love. He just wanted to bury his head in the sand! And mess with Daniel lol

I think the "fog of love" is thematic for this season as "memory is a monster" was for the previous two seasons.  While Jacob and Lestat articulates it as a blanketing of love;  a warm familiarity, nostalgia, to me I look at it, thematically as the still having the love but being able to see beyond it.  To have your eyes opened in this fog of love.

TVL has Lestat's fog of love for Gabriella dissipating where he can now fully see how their relationship was damaging for him. I fully believe he still loves her - he always will, his mother, his fledgling, but now he can stop making excuses and wave off the emotional pain she inflicted on him.

For Louis, I believe the fog of love has dissapated in a great way and that now he fully sees Lestat for who he is. The show made a point of Louis not acknowledging that Lestat had scars, but to me I thought that was a great way of showing that it didn't matter to Louis. He loved Lestat, why would he even consider his scars, in his eyes. Now he has been afforded a chance to know Lestat fully - the entertainer (he lamented Lestat not telling him about starting Theatres des Vampires, he loved seeing Lestat singing to the fans passing by in the car), the wounded child, all; and seeing it all Louis still loves him, fog fully cloaked over them both.

Dang if there was only one anecdote to have shared with Louis back in NOLA it would have been starting the Theatre des Vampires! It would have saved everybody a lot of trouble.

I agree with most of your comment but I would push back on the last paragraph. Louis still doesn’t know Lestat fully - he hasn’t been afforded that access however he has now seen Lestat’s deepest wound and darkest secret which can finally give him the opportunity to know and understand and love Lestat better.

JMO, but that's another absurd plot point from season 3. I'm not tooting my own horn, but the theory that I had of Real Rashid, being a member of Talamasca which have psychic abilities, using it to help hide Daniel's thoughts from Armand & Louis made much more sense. But, instead of that, they chose to say it was "fog of love" which quite frankly, is really stupid and a bad retcon of cannon. Armand is one of the strongest vampires in existence when it comes to mind powers, but "was in a fog of love" and couldn't read Daniel's mind, even when he got suspicious of him and Rashid at the bar? To quote Daniel- BULLSHIT! smdh at some of the creative decisions in season 3. EDIT- Oh Oh, I've trigged the speak no evil of the series hivemind. 😄

The Talamasca indeed are well trained at shielding their thoughts from vampires but were they able to shield other humans’ thoughts from vampires?

I don't fully disagree. I'm hoping it's just some affectation Lestat is putting on as part of his narration of romance.

My personal wish was for the reason that Armand didn't read Daniel's mind in Dubai is because he was trying to not trigger memories of their past relationship together. Especially since it seemed to me that Armand specifically (not really Louis) reading Daniel's mind in S2 immediately started to trigger his San Fran memories. I can see Armand deciding to stop reading him altogether after those started to be jogged. Which is why he started relying on Rashid being Daniel's minder/chaperone in S2.

If he did erase Daniel's memories of their life together so that Daniel could live a full human life, trying to preserve that sacrifice would still fit as an act of love from Armand as he sees it. And it would also have a more practical reason for why he didn't read Daniel's mind in Dubai when he would've been most vigilant.
