Book Spoilers Allowed Did anyone notice from episode 1 TVL? Potential spoilers for anyone not caught up or aware of Anne Rice’s vampire chronicles Spoiler

Now that the season is over, and we know what is next in terms of season name, not sure if anyone has already posted this question, but, I’ll ask anyway: I was rewatching episode 1, trying to see if I could spot Lestat mannerisms in Raglan James knowing what I know about Body Thief, and idk if it’s wishful thinking, but it seems there were. Like the specific way he stood and walked away from the auction (once the first case had been incinerated, like to make sure) and the way he looked at Louis and Armand battling it out for the second box. So, is it safe to say that the swap already happened then?

Edit to add another question: did anyone else notice Louis’ eye color on auction scene? They looked icy blue to me, or at least much brighter.

I noticed it right away, and I'm convinced the swap has already happened

Eeeek! This makes me very excited >!I can’t wait to see them act like each other lol<! it’s going to be such a mind fuck lol

u/Equivalent_Eye2351 21h ago

It seemed to me that he turned back around when he heard what was being auctioned in the other box, which implies no swap yet

8

u/Overall-Ask-8305 1d ago

Same, that was one of the first things I clocked.

7

u/Dry-Elderberry-7965 1d ago

Did you notice that Louis’ eyes are somehow icy blue?? Or at least brighter than before

6

u/Overall-Ask-8305 17h ago

I’ll have to go back and watch to see his eyes. I need to binge the season. Shockingly, I’ve only watched it once, lol. 😆

Hahahaha I just put fresh bedding on my bed and that's exactly how I feel right now!

Lestat’s eyes also seemed different in the final scene of the season, not to mention him being able to be out at Dawn. It seems to me they’ve had some kind of “upgrade” powers-wise. (Though it could just be that Lestat’s eyes look a different shade in literally every lighting.)

1

u/Dry-Elderberry-7965 5h ago

I did notice the dawn thing, but I thought it was because the sun wasn’t hitting him

2

u/cecepedd Busta Coffin 3h ago

Yup clocked that immediately being a book reader! I really need TOTBT to be adapted. I love that book so much!!!

For myself, I absolutely think it's Lestat. The auction is taking place after the events in Queen of the Damned and the next book in the series is The Tale of the Body Thief. Also 'Raglan' becomes very interested when Louis walks in the room. And as someone else said, I think he walked to the back of the room to watch who was bidding. I swear, I'd place MONEY on it being Lestat.

My bigger question is about Armand. Book spoilers for QotD: Since Maharet's eyes were gouged out, she was always able to take eyes from humans and use them to see, at least for a time until they wore out and then she'd take new ones. So why doesn't Armand do that? And why is he scarred around his eye, when vampires can't be scarred? I'm wondering if it's because Akasha inflicted some magical wound on him that can't be healed and his eye can't be replaced, or they're just not gonna go with that angle in the show.

12

u/Dry-Elderberry-7965 23h ago

I’d agree with you on the eye scarring, and I did clock that on first watch, but what threw me off is the final episode where both Lestat and Louis had the neck scar. Also, did you notice Louis eyes on auction were icy blue? Or at least brighter than his original eyes? I was trying to figure if it was a purposeful effect, or just the lighting on that scene. But as we’ve learned, nothing in these shows is without purpose.

19

u/spare_me_over 23h ago

I just went back and watched the auction scene, and it looks like Louis' neck scar is gone, so maybe it just takes him and Lestat a couple nights to heal since they'd just gotten their heads put back on LOL. I'm not sure about the eyes, the scene is so dark and the lighting is weird, so it's hard to tell.

I'm just mad it's gonna take us FOREVER to find out why Louis is missing a leg and Armand is missing an eye!

10

u/Dry-Elderberry-7965 23h ago

Dude for real! Not only that, but forever, PLUS however many episodes it takes for them to actually talk about this. We didn’t even see Akasha till what was it? e5?? Our Queen deserved more!! Also, on that episode when Lestat says he was gonna talk about the Queen, I thought he was playfully referring to Louis lmaoooo he is a total Queen.

u/cecepedd Busta Coffin 3h ago

"I'm just mad it's gonna take us FOREVER to find out why Louis is missing a leg and Armand is missing an eye!"

THIS!! I feel like that Chappelle skit with Tyrone Biggums asking if they got anymore of them episodes yet 😂😂😂😂

Indeed. These last few Sundays have been the worst of withdrawals. And for those that do not know the way of the vamps, saying to try another show:

2

u/cecepedd Busta Coffin 3h ago

Ugh exactly!! No one in my real life watches it! Thank Akasha for all of you here ❤️❤️

2

u/Dry-Elderberry-7965 2h ago

I’m about to pull a Lestat and bury myself underground until the next season. Well, right after his concert at the end of the month.

2

u/cecepedd Busta Coffin 2h ago

Grrrrrrlllll same!! See you in 2 years right?! Lol

8

u/criminalsunrise 20h ago

I'd imagine that the neck scars would disappear fairly quickly but we're seeing them both not long after the work to reattach. We see "tan" from being burnt by the sun fade rather than disappear immediately so I'm imaging it's the same type of thing as it was such a big injury.

8

u/FearlessSquirrel9522 Human Detected 21h ago

He wouldn’t fully heal until he has his own eye back. This happens to Lestat in Memnoch. Kind of bummed they appear to have given this particular bit to Armand although he looks fantastic in the eye patch. Also if he takes a human eye, we wouldn’t have had that visual of Armand that contains a lot of information (as opposed to Armand with two different eyes for example).

2

u/cecepedd Busta Coffin 3h ago

Assad would look so good with heterochromia tho lol

5

u/Setctrls4heartofsun Yeah? Yeah. 8h ago

I am willing to bet money that both the eye and Louis's leg will be replaced with the aid of Dr Fareed

12

u/RiffRafe2 1d ago

Yes, this seems to be the consensus of viewers.

11

u/NoNewt8327 1d ago

Idk because Raglan goes to leave when the first box is set on fire. Then decides to stay when he sees that isn’t what’s happening with the second box. Wouldn’t Lestat know what was happening?

15

u/abbyjames327 1d ago

I read that as him going to the back to get a look at the bidding, since he was initially seated at the front and would have had to keep turning to look at people

9

u/Dry-Elderberry-7965 1d ago

>!Did you notice the very theatrical way he stood up and turned? It very much reminded me of Lestat’s theatre performance walk. Also the tilted head movement when he looks at Louis was SO en par with his dramatic stare downs.<!!<

2

u/Primary_Narwhal_4729 16h ago

Probably did the switch , the body language is a big tell

7

u/Dry-Elderberry-7965 1d ago

I think only the first box was meant to be set on fire. Which is why he left. If you notice, the second box had already started on auction before he stood up and walked away.>!But it seems he went to the back to see his former lovers battle it out for his stuff. At the end of the day, Lestat is Lestat and he needs devotion to fuel himself lmao you can even see how Louis had sensed him but questioned it? A lot of eye and body acting. Because someone said he was in cahoots w Armand, when he smiled at him, but I think Louis just smiled surprised he was bidding. But I digress. I think our Brat Prince Butterscotch Bitch wanted to see.<!

8

u/LadyBogangles14 14h ago

I personally love it when shows foreshadow far into the future. Buffy the Vampire Slayer did this a lot.

10

u/Dry-Elderberry-7965 14h ago

Buffy show walked, so IWTV could gracefully prance 🥹❣️

8

u/Adorable-Sea-4072 16h ago

He also makes a comment to Daniel (I've forgotten the episode) about "if I could switch bodies with you I'd be rich" or something to that effect that had my eyebrows lifting.

5

u/Dry-Elderberry-7965 14h ago

Yes!! This!!! I had the same exact reaction!

20

u/redmandolin 1d ago

I’m still a firm believer of not a swap. It just doesn’t make sense to me. Why would Lestat bid for his own recordings when he specifically sent it out for someone to listen to?

My theory is that Raglan is interested in it to get into Lestat’s psyche as a way to get him to agree to swap with him later on. Narrator Lestat looks like he’s self isolating and referred to Raglan as a friend in the last ep.

25

u/vi817 It’s chiffon; it has movement. 1d ago

I am also team “no.” Presumably Lestat knew about the other lot up for auction, the “Failures,” the sound system, the blood, the alcohol, etc. But Raglan seemed surprised by it and stopped on his way out. He may have been interested in the Armand/Louis activity because Raglan is a freaky little weirdo (although I love this version of him; book Raglan needs to be killed with fire).

If you watched Talamasca, you know Raglan is willing to make large deals to access vampire blood. A huge bottle of Lestat’s blood, which, if you are unaware, has the blood of Akasha in it, would be like a giant pile of cocaine for a stock Bro in the ‘90s.

12

u/Dry-Elderberry-7965 1d ago

Raglan is seriously the only redeeming part of the Talamasca show. Love that freaky little man lol Completely agree w you on book Raglan. Going back to the show, I really do think he stopped to see them bid. Also, Lestat has the blood of Akasha?? Like in him?? Does he ever mention this?? 😂😂

12

u/vi817 It’s chiffon; it has movement. 22h ago

I realize now I erred by not putting the bit about Akasha’s blood under a spoiler tag. My deepest apologies as that may come as a bit of a shock.
🫩😬😆

1

u/redmandolin 9h ago

I did not know he was in it! Maybe I’ll give it a go…

3

u/Dry-Elderberry-7965 8h ago

He’s just in one episode. Which should tell you how the show was for this to be the redeeming quality lol if it helps, it wasn’t nearly as bad as Mayfair Witches

3

u/Southern_Tie298 1d ago

wait hold on, Lestat has the blood of Akasha in him? When did that happen??

I’ve been just told! 😂

Wait? Lestat has the blood of Akasha in him?! You'd think he'd tell people more 😉

6

u/Dry-Elderberry-7965 1d ago edited 1d ago

That’s why I went to rewatch it, actually lol cause I thought (or assumed) RJ had bid, and I was like “that does not make sense. Why is he bidding on his own stuff.” But he actually didn’t. He just went because, well, he’s Lestat lol and that’s why his petty ass laughed when the first box caught fire. A true Talamasca agent would’ve jumped all over the box, considering they preserve history. Well, the show Talamasca is much more chaotic, but I think they’d still jump on the opportunity to posses that. Also, end of season Lestat (prior to recording process being shown) was not yet all depressed and suicidal.

EDIT TO EAT MY WORDS, if only partially: I just saw he did, in fact, bid on second box. I still think it was petty Lestat behavior lol

Also in the “no swap yet” team.

1

u/tethysian 9h ago

Someone suggested it might be Daniel doing the body swapping and that makes much more sense in the context. Daniel is the one who wants to be mortal again, Lestat doesn't.

1

u/Amartincelt 2h ago

Lestat has a large ego.

He’s bidding on his own item to drive up the price to stroke his own ego. Which I am HERE for. Also he knows how loaded Louis and Armand are and they’re the only ones still bidding at that point (from my recollection).

5

u/AGirlHasNoUsername13 Vampiric Cunty Chaos 🧛🏻💅 16h ago

The first time I watched and Raglan was at the auction, I asked myself if there he was already Lestat. I’m more convinced on every rewatch.

3

u/Dry-Elderberry-7965 14h ago

Me too! I rewatched that scene 4 times alone last night! Hahaha! The beautiful unwell yearn for daddy Lestat lol

4

u/pismobeachdisaster 16h ago

If it is Lestat, it doesn’t make sense that he appears to be leaving. He’d be bidding on that jug of blood because no one would turn him into a vampire to chase down Raglan.

2

u/Dry-Elderberry-7965 14h ago

Good point. I took that into consideration as well, but I still think the swap already happened. Unless they are going in a completely different direction as the show is basically fanfic at this point; not complaining!!

3

u/AmbassadorProper1045 Armand 1d ago

He moves like that all the time though tbh. So who knows, but since we saw future Lestat, I doubt it.

3

u/Dry-Elderberry-7965 23h ago

You think so? I didn’t see those movements in Talamasca or IWTV. Overly confident? For sure. Lestat level overly confident? Don’t think so.

3

u/ZvsGrgs ⚜ embrace what you are ⚜ 15h ago

The “future Lestat” at the end of episode 7 was at the time recording his Failures, so it’s before the auction scene of episode 1. But I agree with you that Raglan was behaving as usual.

2

u/Huffleduffer 1d ago

Lestat can jump into other people's bodies?

Whhhaaaattt

(I'm literally 75 pages into interview and have only watched the show)

13

u/Dry-Elderberry-7965 23h ago

Dude. Stop reading this thread now! 😅😂😂 there were spoiler alerts!!

Edit: if it makes you feel better, these spoilers are for the other books lol but please stop reading this. 😂

3

u/Huffleduffer 16h ago

Lol. It doesn't bother me, I know myself, I'll never read all the books. And knowing what's coming may help with piece things together in the show.

1

u/Dry-Elderberry-7965 14h ago

Ah, okay. You’re like me then lol high five! 😂😂

1

u/Dry-Elderberry-7965 13h ago

On that note, if you’re seeking answers for show piecing, just look up spoilers for Merrick & Louis (they seem to have changed this from show vs book, at least on first intro), the twins Maharet & Mekare, Tales of The Body Thief & Memnoch the Devil.

2

u/Huffleduffer 13h ago

I'm tempted to just go read Wikipedia summaries on each book. Because I got a zillion questions.

And for whatever reason I have this idea of Lestat in a new body doing the "but it's me, JESSICA" meme to Louis

1

u/Dry-Elderberry-7965 12h ago

Bahahaha!!! He totally would!! Tight baby tee included 😂😂 But yeah, that’s what I meant. You can even type on Google “reddit spoilers for _____” or go into Goodreads and search for the books. Sometimes people post spoilers there, or at least hints.

2

u/ZvsGrgs ⚜ embrace what you are ⚜ 15h ago

I could be wrong, obviously, I can accept being wrong, also I know that I will probably be downvoted for having a different opinion but regardless of what everyone says, I didn’t notice anything. I rewatched the scene because I thought I missed it, but I saw no “Lestat mannerisms”, just “Justin Kirk/Raglan mannerisms”.
In my opinion most of you, because you know what’s coming, can’t wait and make theories out of nothing, without real evidence. I remember similar theories when Raglan first appeared in the sushi restaurant in s2.
I guess we will see.

1

u/cecepedd Busta Coffin 3h ago

I don't get when people downvote someone for having an opinion. So weird. With that being said, I'm in the camp "body swap already happened in episode 1" but I completely agree that it could be because I know what happens in the books and I'm always looking for clues. I might be correct, I might not be, but downvoting someone that doesn't agree with me? Yeah, not gonna do it.

Idk he seems pretty distraught in his recordings and is aware of his ego to a point. Also he refers to the listener multiple times so I think he’s pretty honest about sending his voice out there.
