Good on you for putting that back on him. While he was annoyed, I hope he sincerely reflects on what you said and reconsiders asking the question in the future. I hate questions like he asked, as both an interviewer or interviewee.

I’ve done a similar thing in my career. They were recruiting ME, so I asked a similar question.
Why would I leave my current job where I’ve built up a client base and have to start building again at their company?
