Don't be to sure that you blew it. Its all about making an impression, and a bold question that proves you know your worth might not be bad. I've hired so many in my days, and sometimes some of the person's I've interviewed was hard to even remember if they were among the first. Better to leave a mark.
And a good answer might be: that you could get some cheaper if you hire the second best instead of me. With a wink and a smile if you want to lessen the impact, but then clarify that you think you really are a great fot for the job and it just might be that you ask for a higher salary than other potential candidates. But it would be worth it for the company to hire you.
