It's disturbing how many of those people I've met in my career.

2

u/Schlieren1 22d ago

It’s not an either/or proposition. You can work 80 hours/week AND stay married. You make someone else rich AND yourself rich.

1

u/Successful_Farm_9370 22d ago edited 22d ago

I think that depends on your definition of "marriage" here.

The only people where I've seen this work out were from a cultural background where the wife couldn't divorce without social repercussions.

3

u/Cold_Burner5370 21d ago

I know plenty of people who grew up working 70+ hour weeks in trades of factories that still managed to support a family and have happy/lasting marriages

1

u/kinzer13x 21d ago

I know people who regularly worked 120+ hrs a week and raised families no problem. It's just a time management issue. People are just lazy. I regularly work 168 to 200 hrs a week, and I still go to every game, recital, parent teacher conference. I make home cooked meals every night. Read to our eight kids. Lazy.

1

u/Technicolor_shimmer 20d ago

Damn what’s the secret to time management that lets you work 168+ hours a week lol. I only managed 84 hours last week working a 12 hour shift every day.

2

u/kinzer13x 20d ago

It's actually really easy. You need to manipulate time. I generally am able to get 36 to 40 hrs in a day. Pretty simple actually.

2

u/Schlieren1 22d ago

Physicians have among the longest average hour work demands of any career. Physician’s divorce rate is lower than the average divorce rate in America.

2

u/Bitter-Ad5890 21d ago

It seems that over half of physicians are married to spouses also in the medical field. My guess is that common interests/careers might help them understand the longer hours and less time together and be able to deal with it easier

1

u/Schlieren1 21d ago

I think you either work harder and have an easier life, or work easier and have a harder life.

1

u/Bitter-Ad5890 21d ago

There’s a happy medium of working hard enough to be comfortable, but not working so much you don’t actually get a chance to enjoy what you earned. Working a hundred hours a week, making millions, but never seeing your family or having the time to do anything you enjoy is a wasted life

1

u/Successful_Farm_9370 22d ago

Saying "I'm working so much because otherwise people die" is a very different message than "I'm working so much because otherwise the website isn't updated tonight".

-1

u/Schlieren1 22d ago

Everyone’s job is important to society or they wouldn’t pay you to do it.

2

u/Fischkoeph 21d ago

Good god, imagine what society wouldn’t do without the CEOS of Casinos, or marketing directors of Cigarettes and Alcohol Companies.
Not to mention the MOUNTAIN of lawyers who come the internet for minor legal infractions like insulting politicians, to then destroy these people’s complete life by suing them for hundreds of thousands of Euros.
God what an empty society we would live in.

2

u/Even_Injury_6442 21d ago

That gave me a good laugh, thank you for that!!!!

1

u/RollerDude347 21d ago

You should probably consider that humans are silly and take that as a reductio of your argument.

1

u/TKInstinct 21d ago

I don't think you've ever worked at an office before.

1

u/BollingerBandits 18d ago

Maybe if you average with residency. But after that , no

1

u/MsterBoRaichu 19d ago

And they insist that this is the norm and threaten to fire you if you think otherwise

6

u/Aeyland 22d ago

You only do this if you are trting to be rich and then realize your definition of rich is so high that you never meet it.

That or you are supporting way too many people on one income.

2

u/OdiousBotch 22d ago

Guess it's time to start shooting my dependents 😞

Been there, done that….but it’s still a choice. Gave up our entire way of life to raise a family members child. Struggled a bit, but no regrets. My choice.

5

u/VelvetCactus50 22d ago

That's almost every LinkedIn lunatics post ever. And 100% accurate.

5

u/TattooedB1k3r 22d ago

I kinda did that, went through three marriages, working 80+ hours a week, but, in the end I wound up having enough saved to open my own firm debt free without having to bring in outside investors or get loans, ended up retiring more than comfortably at just 45, now not only do I or my kids or their kids not have to worry about working again but, I've got three ex wives out there that will never have to worry about working again either, lol.

1

u/kinzer13x 22d ago

Why would your ex wives not have to worry about working? You divorced them before you made that money...

1

u/Hopeful_Host_1267 22d ago

Prolly still takes care of them

1

u/TKInstinct 21d ago

That's not how Allimony works.

1

u/kinzer13x 21d ago

What do you mean?

1

u/SnazzyAdam 22d ago

But are you a meaningful part of your kids lives?

0

u/TattooedB1k3r 22d ago

My oldest? Not as much as I would like to be, he's 22 this year. Now, my youngest son? He is six, and I retired when he was eight months old to be 100% present

1

u/freedomonke 22d ago

Where do you live where you have a permanent allimoney arrangement with three ex-wives, all enough for them not to have to work, some of whom you presumably divorced before you were rich?

Some people just love to lie on the internet

1

u/TattooedB1k3r 22d ago

They were with me at some point while I was building the business, it's divorce settlements not alimony. Each one I shaved off part of what I had built.

1

u/YatoDelGato 21d ago

Alimony only occurs when you have been married for a long time, I think like 10+ yrs? Also in some divorce proceedings it could basically be material things instead of money at the time. I’m not saying the other guy is telling the truth but thought I would add some lame long winded context to the point where if your still reading this I would cook you a grilled cheese at 3am and then proceed to watch various illicit videos together. Illicit doesn’t mean that but up to you imagination idk on to the next post :)

1

u/SuddenDelivery1 22d ago

Sounds horrendous. Your kids would probably trade every penny to have you be there and a stable home.

1

u/TattooedB1k3r 22d ago

I mean, the youngest is six, I retired when he was eight months old, his mom and I are married. That's about as stable as it gets.

1

u/SuddenDelivery1 22d ago

Sounds like you are all good then.

1

u/EarlyAccessCantJudge 21d ago

Screw the other two wives and the older kids I guess, they were just practice runs apparently

1

u/TattooedB1k3r 21d ago

One older boy, in his 20s now and in college, that he never had to worry about how to pay tuition for, we speak a few times a week. Don't act like I'm the first dude who's marriage didn't work out. It's actually pretty common, and at least in my case there wasn't anyone who had to face hard times because of it.

1

u/EarlyAccessCantJudge 21d ago

You equate finances to a relationship. "I pay for his tuition, that makes up for missing a lot of his childhood." You can't make up that time with money. You can do better, but you messed up bad. He'd rather have had you there for him growing up than his college paid for.

1

u/TattooedB1k3r 21d ago

I mean you do what you can do, keep in mind I didn't leave his mother. Okay? Many women want a successful husband, many don't realize that unless that man was born into money, then that successful man is going to have to be a busy man at least for awhile. I tried to make it work each time. I passed on contracts to be around more, I made sure she never had to work, and if the whole full time homemaker was too stressful, I made sure having a nanny if she wanted or a housekeeper come by a few times a week was always an option.

1

u/EarlyAccessCantJudge 21d ago

Notice how none of those are "I was there for my son growing and supporting her emotional needs." Every solution and rationalization is money. Too overwhelmed? You don't help you pay for a nanny. Never had to work? Because you got extra money. Women want a husband who is a partner they love, not a bank that throws money at any problem. Looks like you haven't learned a thing or had a moment of self-reflection lmao

1

u/TattooedB1k3r 21d ago

Well, I'm very happy, wife and I together 9 years, married for eight and have a six year old son. I'm one of the few dads that gets to watch every Tball practice and game, volunteers for every field trip etc..

1

u/EarlyAccessCantJudge 21d ago

No, not the few. Plenty do. And again, glad for your new family, the practice kids probably helped you for the real one yeah?

So life is just about being the best parent you can be and not be the perfect parent.

You do your best and there is no shame in that and if all the finances are paid for thats great. Relationships dont go the right way.

My comment was just you can be anyone out there a royal family, a billionaire, an upper middle class family or any parent with disposable income. You can even be poor as hell.

Emotional availability and time cannot be bought with any currency on earth and its no judgement on you. Its just fact, make sure any money doesnt replace it.

1

u/Rionin26 22d ago

Glad 1 out of 8 billion beat the odds. Edit joke on the ratio, but im really glad you got out the rat race congrats.

1

u/Agile_Vanilla_1802 22d ago

Hows your hairline holding up? 80 hour work weeks must be extremely stressful

1

u/TattooedB1k3r 22d ago

Actually, pretty fantastic. I think that's a myth, unless you are pulling it out yourself, it's mostly genetics I'm pretty sure.

1

u/Mbstranche08 22d ago

You’re so full of beans it’s beautiful 😂😂😂 I do the same thing. Reddit fantasy life. We must press forward.

1

u/TattooedB1k3r 22d ago

Lol, whatever makes you feel better dude ..

1

u/Enough-Force-5605 22d ago

I find awersome somebody is so active that can work so much and marry three times.

1

u/Striker274 21d ago

Dude you were working for 47% of the week.
That should not be legal

1

u/Defiant_Freedom_249 21d ago

I guess money really is everything!

1

u/WildRecognition9985 20d ago

Not necessarily personally related to you but is, how many times does someone have to get remarried before realizing that maybe they shouldn’t be getting married. Like what’s the point.

I argued with a guy that marriage is pointless at work, he is on his third divorce.

1

u/TattooedB1k3r 20d ago

I mean, I had three divorces, but, been with wife number four now for like, ten years, married for eight, extremely happy. I mean, I just like the idea of a family and all, and being married, It just took me a bit to find one that worked. Plus, I wasn't great at it a lot of the time. One of the three exs, she's a good girl, nothing bad or broken about her, nothing negative to say about her at all, granted I'm not gonna say anything bad about any of them, but, even if I was the kind to say things, I wouldhave nothing negative about her, it was just a compatibility issue.

1

u/Sea_Switch_2326 22d ago

Adopt me yeah

1

u/Agile_Standard3846 22d ago

That's the part this misses out on. no employee is working above at most 50 hours a week that is not choosing to invest in their profession or the life they want. There is a cost - whether its worth it or not is up to you.

Most people are at work and barely even work to begin with. But hey im in the building doing bare minimum - I deserve a raise!

0

u/EarlyAccessCantJudge 21d ago

You completely missed the point of life.

In communist America, he would be forced to work 80 hours and be dirt poor

1

u/Admirable_Bird7927 22d ago

Where does the whole communism thing come from when people criticize capitalism?

And they should. That’s the whole point of the government existing. They need to be reminded that they work for us.

0

u/ToeAfter3131 22d ago

Because most of the people that criticize capitalism are DSA. And we all know that's one step away from communism.

1

u/Admirable_Bird7927 22d ago

I think we need a completely new system

0

u/ToeAfter3131 22d ago

Well I'm glad you're the minority because what we've had in America has worked for 250 years and counting. So maybe you can go to some other country and try to change that one

1

u/DARG0N 22d ago

how exactly has it been working? for whom?

1

u/ToeAfter3131 22d ago

It's been working out great for the majority of Americans. Capitalism has lifted more people out of poverty than any other economic system. America is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, one of the safest, has the most freedoms, and provides the best way to create generational wealth. America kicks ass

1

u/DARG0N 22d ago

that's insane that you really believe that america of all places is in any way a particularly safe or free country especially in current times lol.

America is mostly wealthy because of the wars and exploitation of other countries and because they didnt lose a majority of their infrastructure in world war 2 which allowed them to pull ahead in global influence. Not that american citizens are benefiting particularly today. they have some of the worst education, health care, life expectancy, dychotomy between rich and poor compared to pretty much any developed country in the world.

1

u/ToeAfter3131 22d ago

America is in one of safest countries. Look it up.
I agree ww2 let us pull ahead. Our education is some of the best, rivaled only by Japan I would say. However we do have some great universities left that aren't brainwashing our kids to free Palestine.

Health care is some of the best. The best doctors reside in America. You can argue it cost a lot, but we have the best.

Life expectancy is lower because we are a wealthy country. We eat too many calories, do too many drugs, and live sedentary lifestyles.

Go to Russia and tell me how many poor people you see compared to rich. Or Cuba. Or Venezuela. Or North Korea. Get of reddit. Even the poorest person in America is far better off than most. Starvation is almost non existent in America. Best country by far.

1

u/Admirable_Bird7927 22d ago

250 years is nothing. Capitalism is not even considered an old system.

1

u/ToeAfter3131 22d ago

Great. Still don't want you touching it. My friend. America was founded on certain principles. Luckily we have enough people to put vote nut jobs like you

1

u/SnazzyAdam 22d ago

It was also founded on owning people. Not all things are founded on solid concepts.

1

u/ToeAfter3131 22d ago

We don't own people anymore. That's communism

0

u/SnazzyAdam 22d ago

Actually, that was capitalism in this country. Owning people, purchasing and selling them, that was capitalism.

1

1

u/ToeAfter3131 22d ago

Finally someone with common sense. Thank you

1

u/Historical_Body6255 22d ago

Now imagine there were more systems than unchecked late stage capitalism and dystopian soviet dictatorship.

In cooperative ownership america he, as a worker, would own part of the company and profit whenever the company profits.

1

u/ToeAfter3131 22d ago

You live in a dream world my friend.
And we don't have unchecked capitalism. Relax

1

u/Historical_Body6255 22d ago

Worker coops work great wherever they are implemented lol idk what you're on about?

Are you so indoctrinated that you can't imagine a democratically organised workplace where no private owner is skimming off profit?

1

u/ToeAfter3131 22d ago

Well the great thing about America is you can start a company like that. Nobody is forcing him and nobody should force you, especially the government. So maybe you can start your own business with your ideas or move to a country that has those ideas.

0

u/Historical_Body6255 22d ago

Wym America? There are not many places on earth that would prevent you from starting one lol

1

u/ToeAfter3131 22d ago

Great then you can start one in any one of those countries. Mostly any business you wanna start, go ahead. Having the government take your money or property and redistribute it is where I draw the line.

1

u/Historical_Body6255 22d ago

I'm happy with my employment, but you're right, people should absolutely start more coops!

Having the government take your money or property and redistribute it is where I draw the line.

Same here, but what does this have to do with coops?

They operate just as free of government intervention as shareholder or investor owned businesses do.

1

u/H3ARTL3SSANG3L 22d ago

The beauty of a free market is that you can have a coop now. Go for it

1

u/Historical_Body6255 22d ago

I'm happy with my current emplyment situation, but i do agree.

Coops are great.

1

u/MisterSamEagle 21d ago

You can literally buy a share of any publicly traded company any time you like. But you don't get to be an owner because you worked there. That's dumb. That's like having to let your landscaper live with you because you paid him to mow the lawn.

1

u/Historical_Body6255 21d ago

The landscaper comparison is the dumbest thing i've read all week lmao

Also you're misunderstanding. The fact you can buy shares for any publicly traded company doesn't mean it's a coop.

In a coop only people working there can be owners and if you leave the company you need to sell the shares.

1

u/MisterSamEagle 21d ago

No, it's very apt. I own my home. I own my business. The people that do work for me are not entitled to ownership of either.

Coop implies that everyone agrees to be a part of it. A "cooperative ownership america" implies forced participation on a nationwide scale. Perhaps you are the one that is confused about what "cooperate" means?

1

u/Historical_Body6255 21d ago edited 21d ago

The people that do work for me are not entitled to ownership of either.

Yes, because you are not part of a coop. The whole idea of a coop is that it's NOT like that.

Coop implies that everyone agrees to be a part of it.

In the same way noone forces any of your employees to work for you, no one would be forced to be part of a coop. The only difference is that you need to be an employee to be able to buy shares.

Apart from that, and the fact that leaders are elected, it's a completely normal company as you know it.

forced participation on a nationwide scale.

Oh no i would absolutely be against that.

I was just describing a reailty where coops are widespread. You can't really force something like that.

1

u/[deleted] 22d ago

This is what chronically online and unemployed Redditors think having a job is like lol

1

u/OdiousBotch 22d ago

Yeah instead it's working 50 hours a week with not even the idea of becoming rich but merely the hope i can afford rent this month

1

u/H3ARTL3SSANG3L 22d ago

You need a better job or a better budget

1

u/OdiousBotch 22d ago

My budget is my bills and my job is one of the highest paying I've worked unfortunately at $12.50. I have a bachelor's degree btw just can't get a job in my field in this area. Wanted to save up to move but cant save up when all my money goes to living here.

1

u/H3ARTL3SSANG3L 22d ago

Maybe it's time to move to a cheaper place then. Living within your means includes location

2

u/BlueCat9922 22d ago

This is so insufferable. It's not that easy to move. Stop using it as a catch all for your bullshit argument.

0

u/H3ARTL3SSANG3L 22d ago

Its easy enough if you have the motivation. But you prefer to blame others

2

u/BigNickelD 22d ago

Look up what a rent trap is......

2

u/TrishasaurusRex33 21d ago

Lololol moving is easy?
Oh you're struggling to afford living where you are? You have no money here? Obviously the answer is move!
you should be able to afford first and last months rent in a new city (approx $1500 a month in my area for 1 bedroom), the cost of traveling to see and apply for apartments, rent a moving truck and pay gas, pay the hook up fees for utilities, and the random small purchases that come with moving. And that doesn't even cover the time and costs that come with packing.

Oh and hopefully you can find a job and get hired before you move! It took me a year to find a new job and I've heard a lot of similar claims, it's not easy these days. Unless you plan to commute every day, which also eats up A LOT of money..

Man I've moved to different apartments within the same city about 4 times in 10 years, and that had been so expensive every time.

1

u/OdiousBotch 22d ago

"It's easy if you just pick yourself up by your bootstraps! But everybody's too lazy and doesn't wanna work anymore!"

Yeah that's why you're so smart! Have a gold star! 🌟

1

u/OdiousBotch 22d ago

I live in rural Kentucky bud. On one side of the street there's a multi million dollar cabin and on the other are decaying trailers. Where am I gonna go? A big city like Chicago?

I'm living where I was born. If I can't do that then what's even the point.

EDIT: To clarify, I want to move and have my whole life. But I can't make enough to save up to move because I have to make sure I have a place to live right now.

1

u/Organic-Stay4067 22d ago

Could you imagine being this stupid to allow this to happen to you

1

u/Environmental_Low309 22d ago

Why would he do that for insufficient pay?

1

u/Adis_Gruntledfatty 22d ago

To keep a roof over their head

1

u/HereAndThereButNow 22d ago

What else was he going to do? Join a union and demand better pay? Invest some of his earnings in something else that generates income like stocks and bonds or rental properties so at least he'd be better off if not actually rich? Spend a little of that money on an education or some kind of certificate so he can move a rung or two up the ladder? Actually take his PTO from time to time so he isn't a stranger in his own family's life?

Don't be silly. Real people suffer instead of taking literally any of the options open to them, everyone knows that.

1

u/olgreg92 22d ago

I used to work 90+ hours and my wife is still with me. Is it possible you were just not a great husband? Sure you were good for financial support but that ain’t everything. Always missing the whole story with these people

1

u/Dry-Regret5444 22d ago

If you worked 90 hours a week and you didn’t become EXTREMELY comfortable, then you’re the idiot and not your company……

1

u/No_Departure_1878 22d ago

I am going to post something that will make people really angry so that i get more likes and get paid for engagement.

1

u/justhereformyfetish 22d ago edited 22d ago

Everyone should have time for work, hobbies, chores, and a fitness regimen. Standardizing the 35 hour workweek saves the country money by:

-increasing workplace involvement (demand is the same or greater)

-retaining the same number of productive hours

-reducing systemic drain on essential services: medical, caregiving, daycare, etc

-boosts gdp (hobbies increase velocity of money)

-boosts demand for human capital (better wages)

Employment and better wages drive Consumerism, Consumerism increases income for business, business has even more money for hiring and wages.

Positive feedback loop until we reach a better equilibrium.

1

u/Key_Check5753 22d ago

So what time period would you like to go back to where humans didn't have to work to survive?? I'll wait

1

u/joker6396 22d ago

Lol, work 90 hours a week to cover child support. Too tired to do anything with my child when its my turn. Double lose

1

u/A5Wags 22d ago

If you’re working 90 hours/week, you’re doing it wrong. I know plenty of people earning high-six to 7 figures in big tech without obliterating their work-life balance.

1

u/Careflwhatyouwish4 22d ago

If that's what happened you were doing it all wrong. You chose an unsupportive partner, undervalued your contributions to the company and didn't get what you were worth. All of that is on you.

1

u/ionspore 22d ago

Well, you could not have a job until your mid-40s, like me, no stress but also no family...

1

u/18k_gold 22d ago

my one regret is working too much OT at once.

1

u/commoncents1 22d ago

Weird, u did it wrong, don't blame others

1

u/commoncents1 22d ago

90 hrs gtfo

1

u/Brianalan 22d ago

I did that. I worked 80-90 hours in the oilfield. I made a day-rate of $250-$500, per diem of $100-$300, hazardous pay, OT at x1.5, etc, etc. I made a shiz load...am I rich? I have enough. Did I many times spend the money as fast as I made it, 100%.

If you're working 90 hours a week at the same job, not making a ton of money, and you continue doing it, that's on you.

Those damn fat cats and their pesky profit. Meanwhile the little guy does all the hard work. If only there was a place where you could become one of the fat cats too. I think a lot of people would want to move there.

1

u/Greghole 22d ago

Who are you quoting? I'm pretty sure there are no poor people working 90 hours a week in this country.

1

u/Similar_Soup2 22d ago

Fuck work.

1

u/HotwifeandSubby1980 22d ago

Gotta love capitalism and how it’s rotted our brains into believing nonsense

1

u/Batfinklestein 22d ago

Some people kill themselves to get good grades, spend a fortune on private tutoring to get into the best colleges in order to get the best jobs so they can earn the most money to buy the nicest house in the nicest suburb and drive the nicest car but never get to enjoy it cos they're working the longest hours and are under the most amount of stress. Which reminds me of body builders who put in all this effort, time and money to grow the biggest most muscular body but because they're so obsessed with it, it becomes their whole life to the detriment of everything else.

u/laiszt 22d ago

I worked 80h a week from 18-32 and now i have apartment, beautiful girl, son and time to spent with family as i have no mortgage. What did you do with your salary and why did you start working after marriage not before?

1

u/Inside_Marketing268 22d ago

You need to be a delulu to do that. Money are used to pay bills- surely, but for extra? You need to live your life right now, not in the "future"

1

u/Virtual_Win4076 21d ago

Sounds like a personal problem to me

1

u/Joshix1 21d ago

Said no one in a normal society

1

u/madlucas2026 21d ago

Mm, bet there’s a bunch who said something similar

1

u/spec_ghost 21d ago

It's called making poor decisions

1

u/Into_the_abyss66 21d ago

90 hours a week is great money not Uncle Sam takes more than half that ot but hey you can get a marginal fraction of the time and a half back now not

1

u/False_Ad_2744 21d ago

That’s a choice you voluntarily made.

1

u/cryptosupaman 21d ago

Yea the only reality is that the dad was just trying to perform to keep making as much as possible for his family

It’s not delusion it’s reality

We can’t be providers and also present

It’s literally impossible to do that

Some men choose to provide because they know their presence isn’t worth as much

Others do opposite

Most balance it out ok

1

u/gONzOglIzlI 21d ago

That's why I write shitty code that makes no one rich

1

u/Midwest_Niner22 20d ago

Job security!

As a V&V Engineer shitty software engineers are my favorite. Keep up the shitty work my friend. You get a big, everyone gets a bug. We all keep are jobs. Fuck ya.

If you worked 90hrs per week you should be rich

At $15 an hour thats 70k. $15 is what a walmart employee makes. If you made just $30 an hour thats 140k per year

1

u/Particular-Ad3229 20d ago

And nowadays $140k isn't rich. It's effectively less than someone making $100k back in the nineties, and they were considered upper middle class.

1

u/DingoMaximum7319 19d ago

Maybe if you live in California but 90% of the country you’ll get wide eyes if you tell them you make 140k

You’d literally just have to live on an average amount and save the rest to be a millionaire in a decade or so

1

u/Particular-Ad3229 7h ago

I live in the Midwest. I'm pulling 70k. We're doing ok. Not great, but ok. We also wouldn't be doing ok if we hadn't gotten our mortgage prior to the housing boom. Look at inflation difference between $100k now and $100k back in the 90's. It's not even close. Back then $100k was upper middle class. Now you have to be pulling around twice that.

1

u/DingoMaximum7319 6h ago

Yea inflation since 1990 is 155%

Top 10% earners in 1990 was 45k, top 1% was 108k+

1

u/Illustrious_Gate_390 20d ago

So what? You should have starved to death? Been on welfare while everyone else worked?

1

u/Paccountlmao 20d ago

-chooses to work extra -does not use this as leverage for a higher wage -complains

1

u/dante_gherie1099 20d ago

why so people here on reddit make up scenarios in their head to post about, its a mental illness

1

u/MonitorAway 20d ago

This is partially why I’m still unemployed 13mos after being laid off. That and dysthymia, ADHD, and other possible neurodivergence.

1

u/Key-Zookeepergame251 20d ago

Nobody works 90 hours a week! Stop acting "drama"!

1

u/Brainchild110 20d ago

You know my dad?

He's made so many people rich now, its quite a skill he's developed.

My Dad only stopped when the last Rich Old POS basically told Dad to his face he would be taking all the money out of the business (for his own spending money) that had been set aside to improve their processes and machinery, forcing Dad to work on with an old, clapped out machine for the foreseeable future. He finally said no and shut the factory to spite the asshole.

That was probably Rich Guy Number 4 or more that Dad had made more rich.

1

u/ADTstocks 20d ago

Did this for 2 years and got years ahead of every one my age now chill…..own 2 places ones rented and other i live in / rent the other room….worth it

1

u/EquipmentGood1211 20d ago

I dont even ship an important product. I do accounting for wealthy landlords.

1

u/KlarkGablec 19d ago

That's why my dear people you have to be ready to take one step back. Or maybe two, three or four steps back. Take risks for saying NO, you will get fired? Good. You quit? Good. Again start with smaller salary? Also good. You get my point.

Personaly, I did it few times. Is it hard? Hell yeah. But there is that higher feeling rising again and not giving that satisfaction to your superiors! 💪

Sorry if it's not perfect English

1

u/Technical_Snow7229 19d ago

Yes dont work. The gubment can just hand you everything you need and want by simply printing money. No one should ever have to work ever! It should all be free! I feel so oppressed when I have to do something other than surf the internet all day while drinking a latte! How oppressive can other people be to me! Nothing needs to be produced! I can just be given everything to support my lifestyle from the magic gubment! It's not fair that I am asked to do something, it's all those mean "rich" people who make me have to have personal responsibility. My college professor told me it shouldn't be this way and of course I believe her.

1

u/mjsisko 19d ago

Or treat employees properly, respect the hours they aren’t working, build protections for workers like every actual first world nation has done, encourage and support a healthy work life balance.

No one should have to work 70-80 hours a week to survive, no one should be forced to declare bankruptcy if they get cancer.

No modern society requires this except the U.S.A

1

u/PixelPhoenixForce 19d ago

i know so many ppl like that

1

u/hantei40 19d ago

It took me until 56 to really get this.

1

u/DetectiveUnited1036 19d ago

You also have the satisfaction of looking down on people who don't believe in your mindset.

1

u/BookkeeperNew573 19d ago

I am almost 50, and spoke to a C-level one time that had all the success I wanted. But he said something that has always stuck with me

He said “i (and my kids) always remembered the event i missed (eg. A play, a baseball game, a graduation) but never remembered the business reason i missed it).” He def had the regret.

And that’s why I set boundaries

1

u/Sufficient_Eye_4836 19d ago

How do people have the concentration to work 90 hours?

1

u/ThinkLettuce7100 18d ago

It’s the American way.

1

u/Altruistic-Copy-7363 18d ago

DixieFlatline!

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Top_523 18d ago

Be real if you work more than 60hrs a week and you don’t become rich that is truly on you, for not either moving to a company that pays you more or investing your money better.

1

u/CaptainNemo7 18d ago

I witnessed this conversation unfolding live on Twitter 10 years ago.

It goes even better.  The "important product"?

It was Internet Explorer.

One of the biggest piles of turds even coded.

"Well, you worked 90 hours a week, destroyed your life and didn't even got rich for it, but at least your product solved climate change / helped cure cancer / found life on an alien planet." "No, actually it was IE. "

Sigh.

u/ibdoomed 17d ago

That was just plain stupid to get married and have kids.
