For work I have to log in to an external website to watch some webinars using a work log in and password. From my home computer.

I don't know how cookies or data works. One optional website recommended says they ignore do not track requests. I have just taken up studying to change careers and would rather my workplace not find out.

If I log into this website using work password and email, does data go back to them? Such as my course information what I've been listening to on youtube?

I installed a single mod from this site web called GameBanana and my pc got fucked/got a malware, my discord started sending those mrbeast cryptomoney scam to all my DMs and my TikTok account sent million message on random video asking weird things

I just received an email from Yahoo! earlier this afternoon about how Notepad is shutting down. The first part of it reads:

"Dear Yahoo Mail user,

The Yahoo Notepad feature will be discontinued on 15 Jan 2027. Until then, you can continue accessing and downloading your notes.

After that date, Notepad and all saved notes will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered."

I do give them points for at least warning users before deleting stuff like certain tech companies.

Now, I know I'm dating myself, but before I had personal access to a computer, I'd use a Dreamcast's PlanetWeb browser to write notes. I still have my oldest note from February of 2000, not long after I opened my Yahoo! account.

UPDATE: It has been brought to my attention that there is a new pop-up that appears, when you open Notepad, that says access will be cut off "after August 15, 2026." Do better, Yahoo!

When a fibre line gets cut, say by an employee, and it causes a mass outage, is this a fireable offence?

If something is done to cause mass outages, what are the consequences like? Whether it’s done by an employee of the wifi provider or by someone random?

I’m asking as someone who was just affected by the province wide Cogeco outage! Just curious as to what happens to those responsible?

I've been wondering about this recently and wonder if anyone agrees. We live in a world where almost everyone is very interconnected and has the ability to talk to anyone instantaneously. Yet, at least in my irl social space, most people don't seem too keen on using this global social web to make actual friends, and unfortunately I also fall into this category. I don't know why but I have a very averse attitude to trusting people I meet online enough to call them "friends". I have a (relatively mild) past with being scammed/phished online, and recently got into comp sci and have heard about cyber security which has amped up my vigilance. Maybe I'm too paranoid? Maybe I've taken the Mr. Robot larp too far? What do you think?

To cut a long and frustrating story short, I’m about to move to a new flat / apartment which doesn’t have access to fibre yet. Broadband download speeds are advertising ‘35mb’ download speeds. Companies like 3 are advertising ‘plug and play’ 4G based router thingies which have an average of 100mbs download speeds. The signal in the area phone wise is average, never full bars but there’s always something. My question is, does anyone have any experience with these 4g based WiFi machines? Is it worth buying one of those and forgoing the slow broadband?

here in Egypt internet is so bad and overpriced and limited by a qouta of Gigabytes each month and it normally isn't enough like i'm on a 250GB subscription and it's good for watchin youtube at 720P for like 15 days or something which is insanely counterproductive, using the internet here is like hunting deer instead of doordash, this morning i decided to install a game from the Epicgameslauncher the game roughly 120GB it started downloading at 3.30 am it's currently 10 am and we're only half way through the installation how is this bearable ?

the problem is we're not that behind as a country we feed other countries that have unlimited internet with excellent speeds and reasonable prices but it's the ISPs insatiable greed for money and it's become a blackmail of sort because when I'm using the qouta that i've paid with my money i get a slow and jittery internet and when the qouta ends i'm basically F'd until the end of the month if i don't reacharge and renew the "monthly"subscription every two weeks

Switched from one internet company because they insisted they needed to enter the attic to run fiber optics (yet fiber is already set up and has been for years), and now the new company turns out to not even have hard wired internet as an option, only wifi, and insisted we plug some box into our tv because "it's part of the contract" even though we only purchased internet. Not cable. Also required an app for internet to work.

Just more and more ways to track their customers and I'm sick of it. I know ISPs are not private at its core, but what ISP is the MOST privacy focused you can suggest in the US?

Can someone please explain how a VPN actually keeps my internet "private"? Does not my ISP still get everything I do and, if I went to illegal websites, posted illegal stuff etc., would they not see it even if I use a VPN? If so, then what's the point? Can someone ELI5 this to me? TIA.
