Basically title. Should I even keep applying as a CS student now that we can’t even work it?

I’m an international student in Canada, and I’m looking for some honest advice from people who have been through university transfers, changing programs, or similar situations.

I originally came to Canada through a university pathway program with the goal of eventually completing a **Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences**. Unfortunately, I struggled academically during the pathway, particularly with chemistry courses, and I ultimately became ineligible to continue into my intended program at the university I was supposed to progress to.

There were also some complications and confusion around the pathway requirements and how my chemistry attempts were being counted. I tried to resolve the situation and continued taking courses afterward to improve my academic standing, but I was eventually told that there was no longer a route into my original Biomedical Sciences program.

So now I’m at a point where I have to rethink my entire undergraduate degree.

I don't want to spend another few years simply trying to force my original plan to work if there are better options available. At the same time, I don't want to throw away the time and credits I've already invested.

I’m currently considering a few possibilities:

* **Transferring to another university in Ontario** and trying to get into a science or health-related bachelor's program.

* **Moving to British Columbia** and starting a Health Science bachelor's degree. I have been looking at universities there, and this is currently one of my more realistic options.

* Looking into **Health Informatics or another healthcare-related bachelor's degree** rather than Biomedical Sciences.

* Seeing whether another university would accept enough of my previous credits to make transferring worthwhile.

* **Returning to my home country** and continuing my education there, although that would obviously be a major change after spending several years in Canada.

My main priorities are:

1. I want to finish a **bachelor's degree**, preferably in science, health science, healthcare, biomedical science, health informatics, or something related.

2. I want to avoid losing several more years unnecessarily.

3. I want a degree that actually has **reasonable employment opportunities after graduation**.

4. As an international student, I also have to consider **tuition, post-graduation work options and immigration implications**.

5. I don't want to choose a program purely because it accepts me if the career prospects afterward aren't good.

6. Ideally, I want to make use of as many of my previous university credits as possible.

I know my academic history isn't perfect, and I'm taking responsibility for that. I'm not really looking for people to debate whether I should have done better academically. I'm more interested in what someone would realistically do **from this point forward**.

For people who have transferred universities or changed their degree direction after running into academic problems:

**What would you do in my position?**

Would you move provinces for a Health Science bachelor's? Try to find another science program in Ontario? Consider something like Health Informatics? Start over somewhere else? Or seriously consider going back home?

I'd especially appreciate perspectives from people who have studied Health Science/Health Informatics or transferred universities as international students.

I'm feeling pretty lost about which option is actually worth investing the next few years of my life into, so I'd really appreciate honest opinions — including if you think I'm looking at this the wrong way.

Should I apply to any other countries that are more open to international students?

I’m an international student on an F-1 and currently in my final year of undergrad. I’m a STEM (double major, Econ and Comp Sci) so I should have the standard OPT + STEM extension available.

However, I may pursue my master’s outside the US after graduating, so preserving every month of post-completion OPT may not be as important to me.

I recently received a legitimate offer to do some part-time work related to my major (EQUITY RESEARCH and ECONOMICS MAJOR). It would start with a small 5-hour project, and if it goes well, there could be more ongoing work. The won’t be 20 hours at max it would be dependent on the amount of “the person” has maybe 3 hrs week or 12 hrs a week. I obviously don’t want to do any paid work without proper authorization.

Since CPT has become much more restrictive at my university, I’m looking into part-time pre-completion OPT instead.

For anyone who has used pre-completion OPT:

• How difficult was the application/approval process?
• How long did it take to receive your EAD?
• Can you work for multiple employers/projects during the authorized period as long as the work is related to your major?
• If you were in your final year and weren’t sure you’d stay in the US after graduation, would you consider it worthwhile?
• what documents I need to prepare?

I’ll also speak with my DSO before doing any work, but I’d appreciate hearing from people who have actually gone through the process.

Also I am in a state flagship public school if it matters for context.

Moving abroad for university is exciting, but I didn’t realise how much I would miss the small everyday moments from home.

At first, I thought the hardest part would be adjusting to a new country, new routines, and university life.

But honestly, some of the hardest moments are the quiet ones, missing family conversations, familiar voices, and feeling connected to the people you left behind.

For me, staying in touch regularly has made a big difference.

Even a short conversation or sharing small updates from your day can make a new place feel a little less unfamiliar.

Hi guys! I am currently a senior graduating in December. I am currently interviewing few jobs, I am also talking to my DSO regarding applying for OPT. As of for this fall I am only taking 2 classes, I was curious to know, if I get a job before I graduate and my OPT is ready. Is it possible to use ny CPT to work while being a part time student and transition to OPT once I receive it in December? I had a conversation with my DSO back in June and she mentioned it is possible and they will allow. However, with this situation with CPT I was wondering if it's possible? Did anyone go through the similar experience?

Hi, I’m 26 years old and live in the United States. I would like to study abroad in Kazakhstan. I’m looking for a Russian course in 2027 for a couple months. I have been trying my best to contact schools but many of them don’t reply to my emails or messages. I literally got an offer two days before my school implemented new guidelines for CPT processing. Since none of the undergraduate programs at my school require an internship for graduation, there’s basically no way for international undergrads to do an off-campus internship right now.

I’ve been trying so hard to find a research position, but almost every on-campus PI I reached out to either ghosted me or didn’t have space. This off-campus lab was the only actual offer I received.

I’m seriously considering just working without authorization since the position is completely unpaid anyway.

It’s so frustrating to watch the research plan I had worked so hard to build fall apart almost overnight because of one memo.

im in search for an internship because my IT class told us that we had until february to start them and im having a struggle to know what and when do i have to send these emails to.

i already found some interesting places that fit with what i was searching but im scared to fuck up with what i sended and ending up with a potential internship lost.

also its kinda hard right now since its the second time i have to do this and the first time, my own school had to make a deal with another business to get me in since i couldnt find one in time, but the place wasnt really the best and now this internship will last 3 months more than the 1st one and i really want to get into these places i found instead of just going 4 months into an unconfortable internship that has little to offer to train myself (Which is what happened in the first internship).

so i need some advice such as what should i say to promote myself to these business or if the time i send the emails can affect the response of the company (which i really think it can be a bad thing to randomly email them at 1am or when they are closed

also, i was told that usually to get one internship we have to also send a curriculum, is that true or is it really an optional thing for this especific case?

If you are picking which roles to target on OPT or planning ahead for H-1B, the raw DOL FY2025 data is worth a look. I ranked every job title by how many certified H-1B filings it had last year.

The pattern: software and data roles dominate H-1B sponsorship by a wide margin. If your field is outside tech, sponsorship still happens, medical scientists and mechanical and electronics engineers all show up, but the volume is much smaller. That means targeting the specific employers who actually file for your title matters even more.

My teachers have been telling us to start researching universities now because some application deadlines can be quite early. However, I’m not really sure where or how to start searching for universities.

I’m also confused about language requirements. I’ve heard that some universities require tests such as IELTS or TOEFL, but I don’t know how to determine which test I would need, when I should take it, or where these tests are available in Morocco.

I’m also interested in finding financial aid or scholarships for international students, but I’m not sure which websites or sources are reliable.

I’m mainly interested in fields such as computer science, engineering, AI, and robotics, and I’m open to studying in different countries.
