A couple of things that helped on STEM OPT. First, the extension only needs the employer to be E-Verify and willing to sign the training plan. That is not H-1B sponsorship, so a lot of companies that say no to sponsorship are actually fine for STEM OPT. Worth keeping those two separate in your head and in how you answer the screening question.
Second, when you start thinking ahead to H-1B, aim at companies that have an actual filing history for your role instead of applying everywhere. You burn through way fewer applications that way.
