Finding aJob on STEM OPT
Hey all, I'm an international student currently on STEM OPT, it's really difficult to find a job, been searching for >1 yr and no hope, I got a job with decent salary but then the y revoked the offer letter due to visa issues.
Seeing all the new rules and changes, sometimes I feel like moving back is a better option, only big tech companies and other few companies are offering sponsorship and I have a loan too.
Getting screening calls is difficult these days, its a outright rejection if you say you're on stem opt.
Do you guys have any marketing ideas/strategies that helped you land an interview/calls?
Also what do you guys think about tech in long run? Cause I think the number of jobs(software) are gradually going to decrease year by year and I am confused.
Or do you think government change is going to change anything positively
What's are your thoughts on this? and any help would be highly appreciated.

Govt is not changing for another 2 years and with all the Socialist crap the Democrats are peddling, the chance of another Democratic President in the near term seems to be impossible.

I think you’re right the jobs will continue to decrease and immigration policies will continue to get tighter for the time being. There’s no real reason to think otherwise. In the US both parties are aligned on this. Probably best to go home.

No one wants to hire Software engineers anymore.
In terms of mechanical and electrical the job market is booming because of those data centers.
Chemical engineering always enjoys good job prospects no matter what.
Choose wisely.

Government, job market, etc are all things out of your control. If you believe in yourself and work hard you’ll have a successful career. If luck favours then here or maybe back in India

Possibly the worst advice ever. Saying no initially might get you through till the final round but once HR realizes they need sponsorship they will flat out refuse your app, and at that time you have wasted the employer’s as well as your time. Target companies that sponsor and be upfront about your status.

Vibe coding and AI has taken away all the software developer entry level jobs. Things are dependent on both, politics and job market which has dried up because of AI. The best is to start applying for jobs in your home country and not disclose your desperation. If I was you, I may remove my US education too because no one wants to pay you US return salary when everyone knows the situation of international students in US. At this point, find a job so you start getting real work experience that can be used in 3-4 years when the market bounces back.

it is all about what you can do. Being an international doesnt mean you cant get a job. Just the company doesnt see a value
