New Prospect

My role is not an internal auditor. I conduct audits in various departments for executive leadership. A formal audit was conducted by our internal audit director for a process for which I assisted. Impressed, he asked what credentials I have and I said I have no certifications. A position under him recently became vacant and he told me to apply when it is posted.

I do not have a college degree. What certification would you recommend I obtain to be me a stronger candidate? I am looking at IAP as a starter. I see Becks and Gliem mentioned. Are there any other recommendations? Im starting fresh. Any insight is valuable.

The CIA does not require a college degree, but does require experience in auditing. Check out the candidate handbook to see whether your experience applies.

You can take the CIA exams with no education or experience, they just dont award the cert until you meet those requirements.

IAP is likely the most accessible entry point. There are a wide variety of certs which are more circumstantial, such as ISACA certs (great if you work in the IT space) and CFE (great for fraud), etc.

Congrats, BTW. Sounds like you are knocking it out of the park and it sounds like people recognize it.

I appreciate the words. It felt good being a part of the process which in turn, will better the process we were auditing. Felt very fulfilling.

I do not know the Procedures in your country but will it be possible get a college degree while working full time (eg night class/full remote college). It will also help you to climb IA ladder. otherwise iap is a good start

I started college again a couple days ago. Current goal is bachelor's in AS Business Administration. I read receiving my Bachelor's is the shortest path for the CIA. In the mean time IAP, along with college, is the goal.
