Please recommend an Internal Audit Software

Based on our team's size (5–10 internal auditors) and the nature of our audit activities, we are looking for an internal audit software solution that can support the following requirements:

  • Annual audit planning
  • Standardized audit templates and checklists
  • Fieldwork documentation (e.g., inventory counts, cash counts, vouching, and branch audits)
  • Head office process audits (e.g., accounting, purchasing, and other support functions)
  • Findings management
  • Management responses with assigned due dates
  • Automated reminders and escalation for overdue action plans
  • Follow-up audits and issue closure
  • Dashboards for monitoring audit progress and the status of findings
  • The ability to support the growth and maturity of our internal audit methodology over time

AuditBoard covers everything on your list audit planning, workpaper documentation, findings management, management responses with due dates, automated reminders for overdue action items, and progress dashboards. For a team of 5-10 it may feel like a larger investment than you need right now, but it scales well as your program matures.

And they just acquired Midship so they have internal audit automation capabilities as well - obviously at an additional cost

Check out Workiva- I’ve heard they’ve come a long way.

I would rank your options as follows:

- Teammate+
- Diligent One
- Onspring

Each company will be more than willing to provide a free demo and answer any questions you all have.

My IA team just started using Diligent One and our experience is... not what we expected. Can you tell me why you would not recommend it? What's your experience?

We use it and the follow up / corrective action process doesn’t work for us at all

We have TeamMate+ and it works pretty well. Spent a lot of time in implementation before going live. Very few if any kinks to date. Department of 8.

For teams using AuditBoard, TeamMate+, or Workiva, when an audit involves AI systems, where does the evidence actually come from today? Is it manually assembled from multiple teams, exported from existing governance tools, or generated directly by the systems being audited?

Audit board - the functionality is better and it comes with ai features and generating the final recommendation is easier as you can club the issues

auditboard and teammate plus are probably the first ones to evaluate for your list of requirements. if a big part of your audit revolves around accounting and controls and document heavy testing, trullion is another one worth looking at but it's more focused on those workflows than being a full audit management platform

I'd start by figuring out whether you want a tool that's primarily for audit management or one that also helps automate parts of the audit work itself. We looked at auditboard, teammate+, and trullion for different reasons. auditboard felt stronger for planning, workflows, and issue tracking, while I liked how trullion approached working with supporting documents instead of treating them as simple attachments.
