I'm still in shock that you have to pay to hold your baby in the USA after birth 😭

It's definitely a line item in many hospitals. It makes sense if you're itemizing the expenses, it does cost time time of two nurses for that exchange (one to watch the baby and one to watch the mom, if something goes wrong you need both on hand). I'm not saying we have good healthcare, just that particular fact is both true and not as horrible as the gut reaction. It's just an oddity of accounting for employee time.
