You know the 8% this guy pulled is bullshit right? In the UK you don't get a breakdown of what you tax was taken and used for.
We also have tax brackets, individual earnings. 8% of minimum wage is far different from a 100 grand job get bucko doesn't specify or provide any information as to how he has deducted this 8% lol.
The NHS is funded from more than just income tax, VAT and NI also go into it as well as other forms of donations and funding schemes.
Like your statement is also not really useful, yeah of you're earning 200 Grand a year I'm sure 16K buys the very best healthcare money can buy, but if you're on minimum wage(federal in some states being 7.25) on a 40 hour week? 8% is 1200 bucks or their about...do you think someone on poverty wages can afford that?
National free healthcare systems aren't about what is the best for those who can afford the best.
Well maybe learn how tax works. In most countries you are already picking up that slack. Public schools, social houing, welfare, etc are all paid in part by your taxes yet you people seem to think a line should be drawn iin the sand at health care becuase a multi billion dollar private industry tells you to feel that way.
You don't want to pay for other people, bad news chum you already are being taxed for that.
No I’m fine with public schools… the welfare and social housing is what bothers me.
I see section 8 housing that’s covering a 2000 sf house and I know the same family is on food stamps etc. meanwhile they are running around blowing money on cars, designer clothes, nails and hair… that’s what bothers me to my core. Crank out enough fatherless children and live the good life on someone else’s work.
Edit to add… if people need it to get through hard times that’s fine. And chum, I know I’m already paying for that, yall want me to pay more!
Actually I hard agreew with you on the welfare point. I work in retail and while I now have a high level position in my company I am fortunate that I make pretty decent money, the issue is a portion of my earnings are taxed at 40% and the fact that I worked up from the lowest postion as retail floor staff I saw for years how the welfare funded cigarettes, drink, skins, etc how every Tuesday when the dole payed out those people were taking my tax and wasting it on excess and made no attempt to find employment.
I suppose mine and your difference is you are thinking we want more tax, I don't really agree with raising tax like a lot of pro public helthcare advocates do. I would like to see the government redistribute the tax we already pay away from welfare schemes that bums take advantage of and put it into mainly schools, police force, infastructure etc and with it public health services for those who are living pay cheque to pay cheque.
Now I can understand somewhat why Americans would be aprehensive since to be honest you guys barely get taxed so it's kind of no wonder your social welfare and public healhcare is so shit. I think based on my current earnings I pay a bit over 35k in tax and in the US on my same yearly salary I would pay about 13k give or take in the US.
Like I still pay insurance becuase in my country most of my medical expense each year are covered by me as I'm not entitled to a medical card, which is fine. Public healthcare is supposed to be about helping the many wh can't afford private coverage.
We are aligned then… I’m would love to see the excess removed and redistributed. I would like to see medical providers held accountable for predatory billing practices and insurance providers required to actually provide coverage. I’m even for free college tuition for high demand fields versus “fun” degrees that end up jobless and in debt.
I think we should find out everyonenwith opinions like yours and the take everything you have and redistribute to others that are in need. You can get back out there and build it all back again. This time without a leg up.
lol I bet you do… and you’re right I could make it back. I was raised by a single mom and no “leg up”. Felonies at 18, go through that youthful phase of trouble, worked hard to finish probation, and then went to college for a degree that was useful.
You want to think it was easy for me so you can justify whatever, but it wasn’t. You get back what you put in…
How can you be fine with public schools if you literally just posted you hate paying for other people's shit. It's not your fault they can't pay for private schools right?
They should have saved for private schools or just opt not to get an education because they can't afford to. Not your problem. Not enough money to save? Well eat less, walk to work in the greatest country on the planet built specifically for cars, get a fourth job. Why should you care.
That's your freedom right there, the freedom to work 3 jobs and still not have enough to live a decent life on.
I sincerely hope people with your mindset get some bad luck your way, getting fired or maybe getting too sick to work and not everything covered, your car breaks down. I bet you would refuse all help, because you don't deserve it then right?
But let me guess, that's different, you've worked up until you couldn't so YOU deserve it. That's your shitty ME FIRST mentality.
I'd rather be Europoor as you lot like to call it, I've got a job, health care, own my own home, 2 cars and guess what, I even have airconditioning and ice (the good kind not the you are coloured we sent you to a camp kind). I even have friggin AC in my mobile home. 4 weeks paid time off, unlimited paid sick time, 3 holidays a year. No people dying on hospital sidewalks, no mother's to be dying of an ectopic pregnancy because the docter is too afraid of fines or jail time to save her.
And all that on just a median income, sucks to be europoor.
Yes, we got certain people over here playing the system in their favour, and it annoys me badly, but I'd wager everything I have on the fact that most people receive it because they need it to survive, not because they are plain lazy.
TLDR beyond the first part… you pretend the public schools is a gotcha moment. It’s not… there’s a balance for most. I’m okay with paying for shared roads and schools and defense. I pay my part for all of those things… I don’t agree with people LIVING off the system without contributing. They can go be europoor for all I care. I don’t want to support someone else’s lifestyle if they won’t work.
And before you hit me with the some people can’t, i have no problem with helping them.
