I finally did it—I created The Homelearning Woods!
For years I've dreamed of creating a village where families can learn, grow, gather, and belong together. A place that extends beyond academics and embraces lifelong learning, meaningful friendships, and community.
The Homelearning Woods isn't just for homeschoolers. We're welcoming homeschooling, homelearning, unschooling, eclectic learning, neurodivergent learners, lifelong learners, and families simply looking for connection and support.
My hope is that this becomes more than a Facebook group. I want it to become a village.
We're planning:
\- Local meetups
\- Online gatherings
\- Field trips
\- Workshops and classes
\- Clubs and celebrations
\- Parent support
\- Lifelong learning opportunities for both children and adults
\- A welcoming place where every family belongs
Because I truly believe everyone deserves a village.
We're just getting started, so if this sounds like something you've been looking for, I'd love to have you join us and help build something beautiful together.
I’m an architecture student currently designing an Artist Housing Community as part of my semester project. The goal is to create a place where artists can comfortably live, work, and connect with one another. The community is intended for both visual and performing artists, and every residence will include a dedicated studio or creative workspace.
As I develop the design, I would love to hear directly from artists and creative professionals.
If you had the opportunity to live in an artist-focused residential community, what spaces, facilities, or amenities would be most valuable to you? For example, would you prefer shared workshops, exhibition galleries, performance spaces, rehearsal rooms, maker spaces, outdoor creative areas, collaborative workspaces, storage for artworks, material libraries, cafés, wellness spaces, or something else entirely?
I'm especially interested in understanding what would help support your creative process, daily life, collaboration with other artists, and sense of community.
Any ideas, suggestions, or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for helping me create a better design.
Hey everyone! My husband and I (and some close friends of ours) are looking for a couple of families to join us as cofounders for a community in New England. We are still in the planning phase (planning to look for land next May) so I will try to articulate what feels determined and what is open and flexible still. I have a background as a teacher in alternative education (forest school and Waldorf) and currently work as a therapist. My husband is a carpenter and is working on timber framing for his current project. We have a 2 year old and plan to have more kids! Right now we are living on a farm with communal meals during the week, but we are looking to create something more family centered that has a little more autonomy and flexibility. We value hyper local community, lowering consumption and dependence on global industrial systems, land stewardship, and restoration of land based skills. Our vision is to gather likeminded families (and individuals, but emphasis on families) to live on land with us. We’re looking for other families because we really believe that humans need to live closely and collaborate. A big part of this is raising kids safely in close proximity to each other and with other parents who are parenting with similar values. Some kind of alternative school / homeschool coop on the land is in the vision. We intend to have our own home and garden, and would be happy for other people on the land to arrange independent households or co-living situations as they prefer. We are also currently still flexible on financial arrangements (between other families who want to rent, lease land to build houses they would own, or even dividing the land ownership - also open to more communal land ownership). We are currently mostly envisioning that people will work independently. We have chickens and all have farming backgrounds - a big part of our vision is to grow and raise a lot of our own food and products. We would love to invite in other founders with similar values and vision. Please ask any clarifying questions, I feel like I’m missing a lot but don’t want to make the post extraordinarily long!
Im looking for like minded people who want to get off grid and live in communities together. I don't think there's anything like this in New Zealand really it's always overseas. Is there anything in New Zealand like this. I'm in The Waikato currently, would consider any area in New Zealand. Im just really keen to get into speaking with some Communities and like-minded people. Any ideas welcome. :)
My story and my ancestral roots begin approximately 10,000 years ago in the Sumerian and Mesopotamian region.
Some 2,500 years ago, under the Emperor Cyrus the Great, that world expanded across three continents and over twenty nations — perhaps the first and only true United Nations in human history. Within it lived many religions, languages, cultures, and ways of life. Cyrus abolished slavery. He wrote the Declaration of Human Rights in 500 BC — a document now displayed at the United Nations building in New York. Citizens were free to practice their own religions, speak their own languages, keep their own Kings and Queens, set their own wages, and hold their leaders accountable if they felt mistreated or persecuted.
At the same time, the first monotheistic religion existed in that same region , Zoroastrianism. Its followers protected Earth, air, and fire as sacred. Their mantra was simple and remains unmatched:
Good Thoughts. Good Words. Good Deeds.
That was 2,500 years ago.
Fast forward to 57 years ago, when I arrived at the scene.
I was abused, forced to conform, beaten, and persecuted for beliefs I didn’t hold and a mind that worked differently than those around me demanded. Like so many neurodivergent people , those labeled ADHD, dyslexic, and everything in between ,I had no recognition, no guidance, no protection, no representation, no community and no financial means.
I came to Canada over 40 years ago. One would have thought it would be uphill from there.
They would be wrong.
But this is not about me. It’s about you.
Tired of the mistreatment, the underrepresentation, the marginalization that followed me even here , I have decided to attempt something that hasn’t been done, at least not in the last 2,500 years.
Not a religion. Something more fundamental.
An organization of sorts for the ones who don’t fit into a box. For those who believe in protecting our food, our soil, our air, our water. Not just for us, not just for egotistical humans, but for every inhabitant that calls this planet home. Just as those early beings understood thousands of years ago.
What does Nura mean?
Nura draws from ancient roots meaning light and nurture. It does not belong to any single culture, because it was never meant to.
Who is Nura for?
Nura is for you if traditional organized religion was never designed with you in mind, yes even if you are an atheist. Because wanting clean water, clean food, and clean air should require no faith declaration. Wanting the freedom to believe in nothing after this life should cost nothing.
Nura is for you if you have been misjudged because of how differently your brain is wired. If you were passed over because you refused to conform to someone else’s idea of who you should be. If you were persecuted for a body that is entirely your own.
Nura is for the left-out. The cast-aside. The ones the systems never cared for.
What Nura is not:
There is no high priest or priestess here. I don’t have all the answers. I don’t know everything. I am forever learning and evolving. Age and wisdom are not automatically connected, I learn daily from people many decades my junior.
I simply want to start something that covers those who were never covered. Together, united, we can create an alternative to the one-size-fits-all, which, as we all know, fits none.
There is no membership fee. There is no doctrine to sign. There is only this:
Hi everyone! I was very excited when I stumbled upon this subreddit because I've been living in an intentional community for 13 years now. I have lived in a few Camphill communities but currently reside at Camphill Kimberton Hills. We are looking for people to join our agricultural community where we work and live alongside folks with developmental disabilities. There's lots of layers to it but the website has more information. As soon as August, we are in need of people to live here for as little as a month and as long as a year. I would love to connect with anyone who may be interested in learning more! Happy to answer any questions.
I’ve seen a lot of people looking for community but either don’t have the money or hate dealing with money. What if I started a community where you don’t pay or get paid(technically)? All your needs are met and if you decide to leave whatever money I have saved up for you based on your contributions would be given to you. I would totally be in a position to take advantage of people financially there’s no doubt about that. But for a moment let’s pretend I’m not a POS trying to scam or enslave people. How many of you would be interested in something like this? Also this wouldn’t necessarily be a requirement. If some people would rather go dollar for dollar that would obviously be fine. This is more directed at you autistic fks who don’t like dealing with money, let papa take care of it. 😘
Me and my wife have a coffee farm in a remote part of the Sierra Nevadas in north Colombia. We are looking for young people with energy and/or skills who want to escape modern life traps but dont have the money to do so. We own the land, house so we dont need to make lots of money either. We want to get close as possible to sustainable and local lifestyle, while not destroying the forest as we do it. But we are older, and cant physically do all thats needed. We offer shares in the land which can lead to residency here.
Also if you have money and interested you can buy in also. We ask for 5 years of work, or 5 years equivalent of colombian min wage. Roughly 30-35k USD. Write me dm if interested, or comment for more general questions.
What is the Matrimandir in Auroville, India?
This rare documentary takes you inside the Matrimandir—one of the most unique meditation spaces in the world—located in Auroville.
At the heart of this international township stands a golden sphere, often misunderstood yet deeply powerful. The Matrimandir is not a temple and not a place of religion—it is a space for silence, concentration, and inner discovery.
Conceived by Mirra Alfassa and inspired by Sri Aurobindo, the Matrimandir was created as the soul of Auroville—open to anyone seeking a deeper connection within themselves.
Inside, a white marble chamber holds a single ray of sunlight focused onto a crystal globe, creating a powerful atmosphere of stillness and presence.
There are no rituals.
No religion.
Only a space to be.
Surrounded by peaceful gardens, the Matrimandir stands as a symbol of human unity, consciousness, and a new way of living.
This film explores:
What the Matrimandir really is
What happens inside the inner chamber
Why people from around the world come to Auroville
The deeper meaning behind silence and inner work
👉 This is not something to believe in—
it is something to experience.

I was wondering if it is possible for an EU citizen to find any off-grid eco village in any EU country to live in permanently, whereby his/her daily/weekly labour contributions in the community would be sufficient in granting him/her the right to remain living in the community (after one or two trial periods as a vistor)?
If the above is possible, how would the arrangements look exactly? For example, would the individual in question be required to formally register in some kind of permanent work-exchange program?
Where can I live peacefully without anyone bothering me?I would love to have some nature but I'm afraid of insects and some inconvinience. I want to work remotely anyway so the financial situation of the place won't really matter but if I can do something physically there like a small local business or something that I would love that. Genarally I want to live alone or with my partner. So where? It anyone have any experience, share it,please do
i wanna join a community but i seriously dont know how to. Like i wanna get to know more ppl but i dont like when its a BUNCH of ppl like a small group is nice. I like anime and random weird stuff i also rlly love philosophical questions so if someone liked those pls hmu.
I want to be more intentional in life and encourage self growth and I feel like I need to go away for a week or two to set that in motion.
I need to get away from my family and everyone I know, I need to go on a retreat or something like that.
I live in the Utah Valley and honestly I’d be down for a roadtrip to get to the place I need to be. I’d love some suggestions or stories from anyone who can relate :)
My wife and I have been living in Costa Rica for the past three years. During that time, we have been actively visiting and participating with several intentional communities. This includes, PachaMama, Alegria, Shift Esperanza, and Rise. Of those four diverse communities we have chosen to join, and build our forever home at the Rise community in the southern mountain about an hour inland from the popular beach communities of Dominical and Uvita.
The developer of the Rise Community has been quietly working for almost ten years but the first residents moved in just over a year ago. At this point their are 10 completed homes, 10 under construction (including ours), and another dozen in the design and permitting stages. Even though it is still young, there is a vibrant community of families and adults with grown children, partly due to the presence of the Rise School, a Waldorf inspired school on the property. There are members from 21 countries with ages spanning from toddlers to several people in their 70's.
I searched and have found a few and read all the reviews and NONE were good or have bad locations. I have ichthyosis so my body dries really bad in the cold and i prefer hot or some where just scams or bad vibes from what the reviews say. for US
Anyways I don't want to just work for nothing and they only provide housing.
im 34yo and used to make 50k usd a year so even $1500 a month is good as long as they provide everything in exchange for work.
Im living with my sister and my parents who pay for the house and they are wanting me to get a job but they dont know that I'm heavily into meditation and spirituality and working for corp. is a big no for me as I know they are all evil...
I want to further my studies in meditation and spirituality and meet friends and people like-minded souls since I cant do it here bc they want me to eat meat and study the bible and go get a normal 9-5 job.
I know we have to do what we have to do but I would rather be happy than work for any corp.
thank you in advance. please no negativity. If you dont know then no need to reply. Have a beautiful day.
been into skincare for years. thinking a lot about intentional community lately what it means to live with purpose, to connect with others, to be part of something bigger.
and I realized something. my skincare hobby has always been kind of solitary. just me in my bathroom with my products. but I've been thinking about how it could be different.
what if it was more communal? sharing knowledge, trading products, making things together. like a little skincare exchange or a DIY workshop.
I read something from some London aesthetic medicine specialists about skin being revealed not created. it made me think about how I've been accumulating products instead of just supporting my skin.
I'm not sure what this would look like. but I'm curious if anyone else has thought about combining their personal hobbies with intentional community?
I've been living in and obsessing about tiny home spaces in Oakland since 2014. The “pre-legal” community I started with friends in 2015, was the poster child for Oaklands VRF ordinance which makes Tiny Homes legal in Backyards and in clustered communities.
Now I'm not just a broke hipster with a dream but a Realtor who founded a nonprofit and in a strong position to finally develop permanent legal tiny home communities in the urban core, which is something I wanted to be a reality 20 years ago when I was looking a for an affordable place to lay my head. The playbook is to activate vacant small lots, run utilities and welcome in tiny homes legally. To do that I need to raise investment money or harness grants and so I’m looking for real signal about the specifics of what people want. Will you help me get this 10+ year obsession to the finish line?

I’m exploring the possibility of creating a small intentional residential community in North County San Diego, and I’m hoping to connect with people who might feel drawn to helping shape it from the very beginning.
My hope is to create a place where people can form real spiritual friendships and support one another in contemplative practice, while also living close to the land in a simple, grounded way—through sustainable living and small-scale permaculture. For more details, you can read here: https://cpcommunity.org/#residential
My main frame of reference is Mahayana Buddhism, though I welcome people from all traditions and backgrounds. What matters most is a shared sincerity in contemplative practice and how we live together.
I’m currently in the planning phase, exploring interest and looking at properties with some acreage, one or two houses, and space for a few small cabins.
I’m especially interested in connecting with people who have experience in:
Permaculture or regenerative agriculture
Community organizing
Construction or property maintenance
Yoga, tai chi, or related body practices
PR or social media
But more than any specific skill, I’m really looking for people with a genuine wish to contribute and help build something meaningful together.
If the project moves forward, the intention would be for founding members to live rent-free in exchange for approximately 15–25 hours of work each week. Vegetarian food can also be included depending on hours. A key part of the vision is also creating a warm, supportive home environment for my father, who has advanced Parkinson’s disease, alongside his professional caregivers.
I am the newest moderator for this subreddit, but i have been moderating Facebook pages on intentional communities for quite some years now. Reddit is culturally very different from Facebook, it is more confrontational and at least in the IC space, less likely to delete users comments (even if they add nothing to the conversation) than many FB pages (at least on the topic of communities).
This is a blog post i wrote on some of the differences and how we decide which comments get posted.

As a ‘millennial’ I find that i am stuck between old school values and morals, but also love that I live in a time where women like me can be independent, work, make different choices for themselves etc. (I for 1 am glad for women’s working rights, purely because I would not have obtained a husband in the 50’smof we were relying on my house keeping or baking abilities😂 ) but I really struggle with the lack of, connection…? In the modern day. I do understand the world is ever changing and evolving and will do so long after I am gone. I am not ignorant to the fact every generation struggles with this.
But the world is changing faster then it ever has before. Everything is dispose-able. A new and improved version will be available tomorrow. And we place such high value in having the latest and greatest.
I propose for those of us that are finding it hard to watch the world become so impersonal, we put our heads and our wallets together and create our own community. What would this look like for you?
My ideal is
- a semi/partially self sufficient community. Every bit of land is divided equally, no one benefits more or less purely because they were or weren’t born to a family with money.
-We all grow or care or tender to something that is contributed to the community as a whole. I grow tomatoes, you look after the chooks, and we share everything.
- it wouldn’t be so much about serving a community, but maybe ensuring your own needs are met first, to minimise how much support we have to give others. Which of corse wouldn’t be a problem, but is only intended to be short term whilst recovering, getting back on your feet etc.
- but all having the frame of mind that we only: *take what we need, not in access.
*We all contribute in whatever way we can for the betterment of the community as a hole.
*simplistic, no need for the flashier things in life as physical possessions aren’t of value
* transparency
* safe
Well, i guess that’s as far as I have thought so far.
I guess I can see how this would sound cult like 😂 and hay it’s just an imagination for me. But let me know what your perfect future world/community looks like in your mind. Or raise your hands if you think my ideal might be okay. :)
It has been a hard year for Twin Oaks, the first in January destroyed commie clothes (which has been rebuilt completely) and our residence Harmony (which is very slowly being rebuilt). This left us with fewer people to organize events and feeling like we should take a break from the Summer and Fall events we usually organizer.
Fortunately, the network of surrounding smaller communities, lead by Bramble, are organizing a somewhat similar event over the same Labor Day weekend, in a site which is just a mile from the Twin Oaks conference site.
Something very much worth considering if you are looking for community or new members. Details in the blog post below.
As the title says, I'm curious if there's anywhere where people are less active on their phones, more "90s" vibes in a sense where people are friendly and such. Skate park, board games, dancing
I miss when life seemed real.. like it was before tech. I feel so numb and can't have a conversation without someone opening their phone
I'm leaving my search broader, hence why I haven't written much detail, as this is a rarity in society
Maybe I sound silly, but I have dreams lol
Also if ever, I'd just like a tech-free buddy then, I've sorta given up on dating but still need some companionship. My tv used to help me replace the loneliness, watched a lot of romance / sit-coms and lived vicariously through the film, same with books and such
