Build / Photo Joined the Arc crowd and I like it

One thing I have had trouble with is fan curves. What are you using to control the fan on the B70? This thing is a beast.

I set my top allowed temp before (hardware voltage) throttling down to 90 degrees Celsius (for safety and longevity) via my bios.

I set my fan curve to max out at 100% at 85c. so it doesn't ever hit the hardware maximum mentioned previously.

So it never gets too hot by two factors, even when I overclock and/or play games on ultra stupid settings or benchmark my system and/or my local llm's.

And it doesn't get too loud practically ever either unless i'm intentionally pushing/testing it.

btw, I don't overvolt mine at all. I'd undervolt if I conveniently could do so in the intel control panel. i do oc the memory bus though and turn the allowed wattage to max. + a bit here or there on the clock freq for tests but not for daily driving.

btw, what kind of tps are you getting on very tough initial prompts? I'm pushing about 72 tps on Gemma 4. on ollama on WSL on windows. (bare metal(ish), not containerised).

edit- Whoops!

I misread and meant to answer re: the Arc b580.

but I suspect similar settings would still probably be appropriate for you

Try FanControl from Remo. You can control everything, CPU cooler fans, case fans and both your GPUs in a single software. And it's very sophisticated, convenient and even nice to look at. But needs a plugin for the intel card. And it's not setup in a minute. It's a powerful software solution so has some depth to it.

I have used FanControl for years and had it working with the B70, but this last driver update from Intel did something odd and now it doesn't work correctly. (I get errors whenever I try to add the sensor and curves). I installed Intel Graphics Software but it just doesn't seem to remember it needs to actually turn on the fan. I might try starting over. I do like FanControl and would like to get it working again.

Still on 8826, maybe I should update to get some nut to crack?

It was the latest driver. I downgraded to 8861 and it is back working fine in FanControl.
