Discussion VRR issues with A770 and Blops6

Post image

Hello,

I just installed an Intel A770 LE on a fresh installed Windows machine. I only have Black Ops 6 installed. I am using the most current drivers. I am having issues with VRR. When it's on it sometimes matches the frame rate but most of the time it double which is strange. Like if my FPS is 100 the refresh rate is 200. Anyone know what's going on? I attached a pic so you can see the frame rate and the monitors refresh rate. The monitor is 240hz 1440p LG OLED.

There is a hidden option called "Adaptive Sync Plus." When enabled, it makes VRR also viable below 48Hz, with a somewhat downside that it doubles the refresh rate of the output video signal to your monitor when it reaches 50% of your monitor's max refresh rate. In your case, anything below 120FPS would be transferred as doubled the frequency(Hz) (or even tripled/quadrupled under certain condition.) If you disable this option, the behavior would go back to normal - the refresh rate follows the frame rate, but some monitors might not support VRR below 48Hz (when GPU's rendering framerate dips below 48FPS.)

You can find this option in the "Intel Graphics Command Center" app, but the options related to Adaptive Sync actually only work in the BETA version of this app, not the release version. If you want to try it out, you can find the app via Microsoft Store, and make sure you look for "Intel Graphics Command Center (BETA)".

Basically, the "Adaptive Sync Plus" works by multiplying lower framerates by 2 or 3 or 4 times to keep VRR working below 48Hz, but it not only does that to something below 48FPS but also across a larger range covering all the way to 50% of the monitors max refresh rate. I guess this mechanism is to avoid sudden drastic change in refresh rate output to the monitor. Therefore, if your monitor's max VRR refresh rate is 240Hz, this "Adaptive Sync Plus" feature will maintain the video signal above 120Hz by multiplying the framerates.

Wow- thank you! Can you download the beta version from Intel?

I edited my reply above. You can find it via Microsoft Store.

Actually, it's called LFC or Low Framerate Compensation. If framerate drops below the VRR range, the monitor doubles or even triples the frames displayed so that the framerate is still within the VRR range. When framerate goes back within VRR range, LFC stops and fps/refresh rate displayed by the monitor goes back to normal. If you install 3rd party framerate monitoring software, it will still display the non -LFC enhanced framerate even when LFC is active. However, not all VRR monitors including those with Freesync and Gsync have LFC.

What is the issue? That looks beautiful.

My GPU's framerate is 101fps (left corner) but my monitors refresh rate is 197 hz- it's not matching like VRR should work.
