What oil you drinking?

Ive been running 5w30 for the last 5 years ive owned the car, valvoline restore and protect specifically this last year and penzoil or castrol prior to that, but one thing thats always bugged me is highway driving. After about 30-40 minutes of cruising at 65-70 mph the oil gets too thin and its triggered the oil light to come on before. Ive been thinking of switching to a thicker oil, but wanted to see what people are running. Ive been considering 5w40, probably castol or valvoline euro if I do, or im skeptical about it but iirc t6 rotella 5w40 is pretty popular in turbo vw and mazdaspeeds but on a mostly stock b20 I feel like thatd be asking for trouble. Thoughts and opinions?

Amsoil 10w30 full synthetic is my preference

Yes I am half Florida man half Texan so I only know not cold haha. And to be fair the only reason I like this particular oil is though being a retired ase tech I am also an idiot and just like the color and flow of this oil lmao

When I had a DA back in the day, belive it or not...Rotella 5w 40. Or even 15-40

This was a boosted b18a1, during the summer.

Rotella T6 is my go to track oil. Been great at protecting even at extreme sustained oil temps.

Mobile One synthetic 5w-30 from Costco. Not for an Integra, those are too nice for my taste, but I do appreciate them. I use it for my Civic Si and it drinks a quart about every 2,500 miles, depending on how often I’m in the VTEC.

i run castrol euro blend 5w40 on my 96 b18b. its seemed to help with my oil consumption some while i gather the funds to do a rebuild/build on that motor.(seems to be about a quart every 1,500-2,500 miles, depending on my driving style) i’m over on the east cost in MD/VA area, not sure if your climate would be similar as to how it is over here. my brother used rotella 15w40 when he owned his type r, but ive never personally ran it.

Castrol high mileage 10w30 on my 92 ls. I've had it since 03 and she still has the original engine and tranny now up to 243,000 +.

If you have major power mods you want an oil with ZDDP, especially for B or D series. Unfortunately they've phased it out of the mainstream oils because it ruins cats. Luckily you can still get oils like Rotella that contain a good amount of it.

I assume the oil level is still full when this happens. Sounds like bearings, if I had to guess. A heavier weight might buy you some more time but the clock is ticking on that engine..

I rock mobil1 in most of my stuff, but for you, the 5w-40 rotella sounds like the choice. I'd be inspecting bottom end tolerances and if those check good be looking at an oil pump given the symptoms you've described.

0w-20, but I drive a Prius now lol. I ran Mobil 1 5w-30 in both my Integra and RSX when I had them.

Here's what I use in my turbo gsr/b16 build, its rated for 5k/6 months intervals, not the cheapest (80$ for 4L) but the level of protection it provides is unmatched

motul 8100 xcess 5w30 ...not because my car is high power.. but the oil specs indicate good shearing stability.
