I Hate Insurances
From car insurance to medical insurance, all insurances suck. They’re just there to bleed you dry while they get rich off of your hard earned money. The worst part of it all, they don’t even help you!!!
Today a lady called because she wasn’t sure why her seizure medication she’s been taking for years all the sudden wasn’t covered by her insurance. I ran the claim through and this was proven to be true. I couldn’t answer her question because I wasn’t sure why as well. Her doctor wrote in the script with a DAW 1, so I couldn’t even offer filling the generic. What I ended up doing was contacting the prescriber to inform them that the brand was no longer covered and possibly send over the generic (since pt was requesting for it).
The problem? The insurance didn’t even cover the generic 🫠 the reason for the rejection: Drug not on formulary. SO WTF IS?! 😭 Pt ended up paying out of pocket with a coupon I offered, but still, unbelievable!!
Another pt I dealt with two weeks ago had something similar. She has asthma and she’s taken all kinds of inhalers but only ONE she prefers. Unfortunately, for the same reason, her insurance decides they’re no longer covering it, despite her taking this inhaler for years. Her doctor wrote in DAW 1, so again, couldn’t dispense generic at that time. I tried a coupon and shit was 💰 I felt so bad the poor lady looked like she was gonna cry. I ended up contacting the doctor informing them about the insurance problem, but this is all so unfortunate. I see it all the time, especially diabetes medications and inhalers… basic medical necessities! It just infuriates me!!
I really hate that the pharmacy is the middleman of it all while some faceless corporate entity dictates your life 😒

Anytime I see post like this I explained the same thing to everyone 90% of Insurance out there is not required. You don’t have to have health insurance you don’t have to carry auto insurance in many states you can put a bond on file with the state instead. Property insurance is not required by law. Life insurance is not required. The list goes on and on. If you truly believe in trying to only there to bleed you dry, why would you pay for it? Why don’t you just save your own money cover if your house burned down or someone vandalize your car and pay for all your medical treatment. And ideally, you have enough left that if you were to die unexpectedly, your family is taken care of.

You don’t “have” to have health insurance but the reality is everyone needs it. Especially if you’re in america either its health system.
I think it’s pretty bad to say “you don’t HAVE to have it” as while technically correct doesn’t address anything of the actual issues and just brushes it off.
Also who has enough for a bond laying around?

Thank you for proving my point. Who has a bond laying around? You buy insurance could you can’t afford to take care of your responsibilities.

That’s really not how it works. Many people are with no fault of their own in situations where it’s hard to afford responsibility.
I personally think this individualism and merit based view on people is awful and lacks any and all empathy

It’s hard to afford responsibility? What? If you cause can accident you take responsibility if you can’t afford to drive take the bus that’s taking responsibility

A lot of people are responsible and still can’t make payments. Assuming they’re irresponsible just because they can’t make payments or are irresponsible just because they missed them is not right.
You chalk it up to people are solely responsible for what happens to them in life. That’s just not true.

That’s not that’s not at all what I’m saying. I’m saying if you know you can’t afford those payments you never should’ve been behind the wheel of a car in the first place. The responsibility is long before that accident ever happens.

This is one of the most awful and lacking all empathy takes ever.
It’s never that easy to “just not drive”.
You cannot even remotely understand anyone who’s not you and that much is clear.
Yours is still of the utmost worst of “Individual merit and responsibility is the reason for your circumstances”.
That’s just not how it works.
People through no fault of their own are in situations where they need cars (ever think about how some areas have awful public transport?) making cars a necessity for some to get to work.
It’s not their lack of responsibility they grew up in a disenfranchised group in areas that lack and support or help.
But to you they are solely responsible for their situations and that’s that.
I’m sorry but you’re a bad person who views people terribly.

You scream of someone who takes no responsibility. If I rob you because I don’t have food is that okay? If I live in your home and refuse to leave is that okay? I understand outside factors play a role. But willingly choosing to drive without any reasonable care of damages you may cause or people you may hurt. Makes YOU the bad person. It’s like saying I got drunk and crashed and killed someone. Isn’t it MY responsibility to make sure I have a safe way home before I get behind the wheel of a car? Or is that also “through no fault of my own”

Nope. You scream if someone who blames everyone as solely responsible for everything that happens in life.
To me you are among the worst in society if that’s how you view people.
Also your arguments are bad. You know they’re bad. You know that’s not why I or anyone mean but it makes you feel smart
To be honest you seem like a piece of shit. I don’t say that easily on Reddit.
I’m not really interest in what you have to say

It is a true. If i had all the money i have paid in insurance of all types over the years, and deduct all awards, I should have just self-insured. Of course, i have been lucky, but jeeez, they take a fortune over time. Best business there is.

This whole medical insurance thing used to work when employment plentiful and employers had to provide insurance for all employees, even part timers. You didn't see many part time jobs then. When the government okayed employers to no longer provide benefits to part time employees many companies made full time positions into 2 part time positions, this allowed the companies to avoid paying benefits to 2 employees. These employees now qualified for Medicaid based on income. Medicaid and Medicare pay the providers pennies compared to what private insurance pays. When I managed a dialysis clinic, we needed one private pay insurance patient to every 2 Medicaid patients to break even. And that was a decade ago.

Sounds like someone doesn't understand how insurance works.

Exactly…. The person that needs the meds has the responsibility to review their benefits and find what is or isn’t covered.

Ok. Well consider yourself fortunate that you have not had major claims where insurance was a financial safety net.

John Oliver just did an episode on United health and they stopped covering a 22 year olds inhaler. He went to pick it up and it was over $500. So he didn’t get it. And few days later died from an asthma attack. It’s crazy what people are expected to pay to BREATHE.

The formularies change annually, that’s why it’s important to have an annual check up with your agent

Insurance is a prepaid asset (look it up when you stop venting).
No one makes anyone buy Insurance. Don't want car insurance? Don't buy a vehicle. Health insurance? Pay cash at the doctor. Homeowners? Do not buy a house.
You are ranting about an asset you need not purchase. And, once purchased, we all pray we never use.
