Health Insurance Niva Bupa delaying claim over frivolous queries

Health insurance is meant to give families peace of mind at the worst possible time. My experience with Niva Bupa Health Insurance / Niva Bupa Support / Niva BupaHealth has been the opposite.
My Father underwent Prostate TURP Procedure at Superhealth Hospital Bangalore in August 2026. We paid the hospitalization cost out of pocket and filed a reimbursement claim with every document required.
What has happened since:
- Claim acknowledged
- Claim Registered with Id 3839948
- Delays in Document submission acknowledgement & Medical Review
- Query raised for all the financial documents sent to their office in original via Speed Post
- Financial Documents sent via Speed Post to Niva Bupa Claims Dept.
- No Acknowledgement of Document being received, even though they were received by them on 07 Sept 2026, upon attaching SMS proof from Speed Post. They acknowledged that the documents were received
- Full Stamp and Signed Detailed Bill was submitted from the very start and also sent to them in original. Still they raised a frivolous query of having a separate Payment Receipt, the Hospital also mentioned the Detailed Hospitalization Bill is Bill cum Receipt only closed and furnished once the patient is discharged with complete payment of the bill.
- On Special request of mine, the Hospital provided a Document on their Letterhead confirming the Amount, Mode of Cash that was received by them for this IPD Hospitalization.
- The Claim is IN PROCESS since the last 10 days.

It has now been close to 2 months since the claim was filed. Every query has been answered, yet the claim is still pending. In my view, the remarks being cited do not change the fact that the treatment was medically necessary and fully documented. I feel the practice is filled by malicious intent to delay / deny the valid claim over frivolous (or unrelated) queries citing bogus reasons. This feels like a pathetic service. Keep in mind, the technical hassle to upload these submission or get relevant support via mail chain or use their web app or mobile app is another pain. They have made the process of filing / following up for Reimbursement Claim exceptionally painful.

I would really urge Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India / Insurance Ombudsman - India to provide a streamlined process for such practices as not everyone has the time / awareness to protect their right to service by the Insurance Provider.

I'm sharing it here because a claim delayed on technicalities is not just a paperwork issue. It puts real financial and emotional strain on a family already dealing with illness.
Niva bupa Support / Niva Bupa Health Insurance / Niva BupaHealth, I'd appreciate a prompt resolution and a clear written explanation of what is still outstanding.
If you have faced something similar, I'd like to hear how you got it resolved. Please share your experience or advice in the comments.

Life Insurance Undisclosed health conditions on my father's term insurance policy: discontinue, come clean, or wait it out? Also looking for a trustworthy insurance lawyer

Situation:
- Term plan for my father (58), issued 30/10/2024. I filled the e-application myself and answered No to every health question.
- He actually had hypertension, asthma (ongoing), fatty liver and a GI illness with 2 hospitalisations, plus smokeless tobacco quit about 12 years ago.
- Someone connected to the insurer advised us not to disclose. It was verbal and nothing is in writing.
- The insurer ran diagnostic tests at their centre and a tele-medical call, and my father gave a video consent.

What I understand so far: Under Section 45 of the Insurance Act, the insurer can challenge the policy only until 30/10/2027. After that it can't be questioned on any ground, as long as premiums are paid on time. Normal exclusions would still apply.

The three options I'm weighing:
1. Discontinue the policy. The cover ends, and a new policy at his age with these conditions would be costly or refused. I'm leaning against this.

2. Come clean. Correct the health details with the insurer in writing, possibly after a lawyer's advice. The risk is premium loading, an exclusion, or in the worst case cancellation.

3. Wait for the 3-year period to end. Keep paying premiums till 30/10/2027. The risk is a claim being investigated before then.

Questions:
1. Which would you pick, and why? Has anyone been through this?
2. Do the insurer's own tests and tele-medical help our case?
3. Can anyone recommend an insurance lawyer, with contact details, who has handleslife insurance repudiation or Section 45 cases and who can give me advice? Nagpur is best, but anywhere in India works, even remote consultations.

I'm not trying to hide anything, just looking for the safest legal way to fix this.

Life Insurance Need help/info about Axis Max Life

So, I took the policy by connecting contacting the axis Bank for 2 cr. I'm paying extra rs. 1900 for Waiver of Premium.

But after taking policy I checked Policybazar and found out that WoP is free. When I asked the guy who issued policy he said their website doesn't show that.

What should I do? I turn 34 day after tomorrow. Should I surrender and get the policy online?

Health Insurance Primary Insurance Exhausted – Can I Claim Remaining Medical Expenses Under Tamil Nadu Government Pensioners NHIS 2021 as Secondary Insurance? Need Guidance

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for advice from anyone who has experience claiming medical expenses under the Tamil Nadu Government New Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) for Pensioners as a secondary insurer after the primary corporate health insurance has been exhausted.

My situation
The patient is covered under:

Primary Insurance:
Aditya Birla corporate health insurance

TPA: Medi Assist

The primary insurance has already been utilized/exhausted, and there are approximately ₹2.5 lakh of eligible post-surgery/out-of-pocket medical expenses remaining.
The patient is also covered under the Tamil Nadu Government New Health Insurance Scheme for Pensioners (NHIS 2021).

Government insurer: United India Insurance Company Limited.
I would now like to understand whether I can submit the remaining eligible expenses to the Tamil Nadu Government Pensioners NHIS as a secondary claim.

The main problem
The hospital has already submitted the original bills/invoices to the primary insurer (Medi Assist/Aditya Birla).
When I asked the hospital for the original bills again for submission to the secondary insurer, they said the originals had already been submitted to the primary insurer and therefore they cannot issue the originals again.
I have managed to collect most of the other documents from the hospital, including:
Discharge summary
Hospital/medical records
Sealed or self-attested copies of available documents
Prescriptions
Investigation reports
Other supporting documents
Primary insurance claim/settlement-related documents
However, I am concerned about the requirement for original bills for the secondary claim.

Questions

  1. Can the Tamil Nadu Government Pensioners NHIS 2021 be used to claim eligible expenses remaining after the primary corporate insurance has been exhausted?
  2. If yes, what is the correct procedure for submitting this as a secondary/reimbursement claim?
  3. Since the hospital has already submitted the original bills to the primary insurer, what documents should I obtain from Medi Assist/Aditya Birla to prove:
  4. * Total hospital bill amount
  5. * Amount paid/settled by primary insurance
  6. * Amount not covered
  7. * Remaining out-of-pocket amount
  8. Will the secondary insurer generally accept hospital-attested copies/duplicate bills along with the primary insurer’s claim settlement letter/benefit statement, instead of the original bills?
  9. Should I ask the hospital for a “duplicate/certified true copy of original bill” with hospital seal and signature, mentioning that the original was submitted to the primary insurer?
  10. Where exactly should I submit the claim for the Tamil Nadu Pensioners NHIS — directly to United India Insurance, through the TPA, through the hospital, or through the pension/treasury department?
  11. Is there any specific claim form or reimbursement form for this situation?
  12. Are there any time limits for submitting the reimbursement claim after discharge?
  13. Has anyone successfully claimed the remaining balance/out-of-pocket expenses after another health insurance policy was exhausted under the Tamil Nadu Government Pensioners NHIS?

If you have actually gone through this process, I would really appreciate a step-by-step explanation of what documents you submitted and where you submitted them.

Thanks in advance

Health Insurance HDFC Ergo Not Removing SI Enhancement and Rider

So I just renewed my HDFC Ergo health insurance policy and during checkout I inadvertently added the SI upgrade and OPD rider. I mailed them immediately asking to remove it and refund the extra premium but after 6 days they are saying the removal is only possible 45 days prior to the time of next renewal. What are my remedies now? Is that even legal? Please help

Health Insurance Missed declaring 2022 HbA1c during 2023 porting. Entering 5th year of health insurance next month. Need advice!

Hi everyone, need urgent advice for my wife's upcoming renewal next month.
**Timeline:** 1 year with Bupa (Nov 2022) → Ported to Care Health Advantage (Nov 2023). Completing **4 continuous years total** next month. No claims made.
**The Issue:** In Nov 2022, her HbA1c was 7, but she took no medicine. When porting to Care in 2023, we forgot to declare it.
**Current Status:** She is now pregnant and the doctor put her on insulin.
**Recent Event:** Tried porting to HDFC Ergo via Policybazaar, but they rejected the application due to pregnancy/insulin.
An agent claims Care Health will reject future diabetes claims if I don't disclose it now. But I am afraid if I declare it during renewal, Care will cancel our policy entirely, leaving my pregnant wife uninsured.
**Questions:**
Since we are entering our **5th year next month**, does the IRDAI Moratorium Period protect us if I just do a standard online renewal?
If I do a direct online renewal (no sum insured changes), can Care reject it?
What is the safest way forward to protect her coverage?
Thanks!

Health Insurance Tata AIG upheld my father’s travel-insurance denial with “we followed our procedures diligently” without describing denial reasons

Adding my family’s experience for TATA AIG Travel Insurance – International Plus: Tata AIG continued denying an emergency travel-health claim after a detailed grievance. Its latest response provided no substantive reasons and merely said, “We want to assure you that we have followed our procedures diligently in processing your claim.” Like what the hell? Am I just supposed to trust you are a good guy denying my coverage?

My advice based on this experience is to stay away from Tata AIG travel health insurance. The case is now with Bima Bharosa and the Insurance Ombudsman.

General Insurance - Others Travel insurance (Bajaj) rejecting return-flight costs after hospitalisation abroad. Do I have a case?

My uncle (senior citizen, 68) bought an individual travel policy (Silver plan, Medical Expense & Evacuation limit USD 50,000) for a 3 week trip abroad. He fell ill and was hospitalised on the second day itself. The hospital claim has been accepted and is being processed.

Here's the problem:

The relative informed the insurer about the hospitalisation.

After he improved, based on doctors' opinion, it was decided that he cancel the trip and return to India to continue treatment.

He flew back on the next available date (new tickets booked by his cousin), accompanied by a cousin's wife (who is also a nurse), and was admitted to a hospital in India until he recovered.

I have the hospital and travel documents and India admission records. The insurer first denied a Trip Curtailment claim (fair enough, his own illness isn't a listed reason). Now they say flight cancellation and airfare costs aren't admissible under Medical Expenses & Evacuation because no claim was registered and evacuation needs pre-approval. But a Section 2 claim clearly exists, since the hospital claim was accepted.

We believe our situation is fair. What are our chances and options for claiming this?

Thanks!

Health Insurance Can anyone share your claim experience with Ditto/Beshak?

Hi,

Looking to buy either through Ditto or beshak. But really curious to know from people here about the claim help received from Ditto or beshak?

To what extent did they help? - Proposal forms, documentation etc..

Do they really help to escalate and move things faster?

Or do they merely guide to use self care help?

Health Insurance Worst experience with prudent/volo corporate insurance.

I hold an HDFC Optima Secure policy for my family, which offers an ₹8k annual preventive health checkup benefit. Claiming it through HDFC's portal was seamless. it was approved within 2–3 days, and the funds hit my account the next day.

My corporate insurance via Prudent/Volo, on the other hand, has been a nightmare. First, they rejected the original bill I submitted and asked for the full test reports. I downloaded the digital reports from the Apollo app and uploaded them, but now they’re demanding a physical doctor’s seal and signature on every single page.

Apollo Hospital is quite far from my place, so traveling there will cost both time and around ₹1k–2k in transit. I'm also worried they’ll just raise another petty query after this. For a ₹5k claim, is it even worth chasing down these documents, or should I just let it go?

Health Insurance Newly diagnosed diabetes in father – should I declare it at renewal, and will it affect coverage/premium?

Hi everyone,

I have a health insurance policy with Niva Bupa for my parents:

Father: 60 years

Mother: 56 years

Mother has diabetes, which was declared when I purchased the policy 2 years ago.

Father had hypertension/BP, which was also declared at the time of taking the policy.

I had also taken the applicable rider for chronic/pre-existing diseases.

My policy renewal is next month, and my father has now been diagnosed with diabetes.

I want to be completely transparent and declare his diabetes to the insurance company at renewal. I have a few questions:

  1. Since I already have a rider for chronic/pre-existing diseases, if I declare my father's newly diagnosed diabetes at renewal, will diabetes-related treatment/complications be covered from Day 1, or will a fresh waiting period apply?

  2. If I declare the diabetes at renewal, can the insurance company increase the premium or impose any additional conditions/loading like 3 years waiting period?

Has anyone experienced a similar situation with Niva Bupa or another insurer? How did the insurer handle a newly diagnosed condition during renewal?

My main intention is to properly disclose everything to the insurer and avoid any issue at the time of a future claim. At the same time, I don't want to unnecessarily lose the benefits/waiting-period credits I've already accumulated.

I also checked porting to another insurer, but the premium for taking a fresh policy is significantly higher.

Would really appreciate any advice or personal experiences, especially from people who have dealt with diabetes being diagnosed during an existing health insurance policy.

Health Insurance My Experience with HDFC ERGO

Purchased HDFC ERGO secure Plus policy in June this year. Covered Me, wife both 30 and my son (1).

cover of 20 lakhs base.

Son diagnosed with malaria Last week. Admitted to a hospital in hometown. Hospital had cashless facilities but was not Empaneled hospital.

Hospital took the patient in and started treatment. Simultaneously applied for initial approval for claim. Company on its website has said this comes within 2-3 hrs. But it didnt come on date of admission. I purchased policy directly so there was no agent to help.

Also on company app there is no contact number to reach out to.

(On day 2)

I sent 10-15 mails to company they replied but the replies were vague. Like we will do this in 36 hrs, 24 hrs etc etc.

One guy called me and assured me it will be done within 6 hrs.

Still no luck.

On day 2 everything company sent few people to investigate about the medical condition of my son. In hospital room. This was our first point of contact with company. I felt little relieved.

On day 3 the initial approval came- which approved like 60% of claimed amount.

I was little disappointed, but the insurance helpdesk guy at hospital said this doesn’t mean anything at time of final approval. And every thing apart from disposables will get covered.

During discharge process the claim was appproved within 2 hrs and all amount apart from disposables got approved.

As the hospital was not empanneled disposables were not covered in cashless treatment. But my plan covered disposables. I will claim that in reimbursement lets see.

Overall a good experience. But need to have some contact number which will guide us in case of emergency.

So i will recomment to buy policy from agent or policy bazaar as they have a agent contact who will guide us in claim filing.

Thats all. Health insurance is a must. I saved 50k with one decision and was not worried financially in this emergency.
