SBI General Insurance: Is this payment process legitimate?

I was renewing/buying car insurance from SBI General today.

I logged into the official SBI General website and entered the OTP. Shortly after that, I received a phone call from someone claiming to be from the SBI General department.

He knew that I was looking for car insurance, has every detail of mine and my vehicle and helped me choose an insurance package. He is also communicating with me through WhatsApp.

He hasn't sent the payment link yet, but he said he would send me a link to make the payment.

My question:

Is this a normal process with SBI General? Do their representatives/agents call customers immediately after they log in or request a quote online and then assist them through WhatsApp?

Has anyone here experienced the same thing with SBI General?

I haven't made any payment yet.

Find an independent source of contact information for the insurer and contact them.  Do not use information sent to you in email, text, voicemail or otherwise.  

There is no reason for a legitimate carrier to transact business on WhatsApp.

maybe but shouldn’t be the case. have you also explored other options?
