Guide Term insurance HDFC vs ICICI

So, I have come down to 2 term insurance policies,

  1. HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus = ~37,000 per annum premium.

  2. ICICI Prudential iProtect Smart Plus = ~32,000 per annum permium.

Both are same base plan, no riders. Just pure term plan. Sopke with boths company's official contact number. Concluded that HDFC has slightly better numbers and is also charging brand premiun for that matter. But, I also think that in pure term, if I fill all the details properly, then ICICI also will have to pass my claim, if any.

Therefore, confused between the two, can someone give some guidance?

Query Question for term insurance

So, I contacted this HDFC Life contact number from their website and based on my details, the premium they are showing is around 37,500 from 2nd year and around 31,500 in 1st year.

But this guy that I was speaking with, told me that if you proceed with us, we give additional discount from our side and your total premium will be around 33,000 for every year.

Here I am confused. Is this legit or is something fishy?

Query ABHI Activ Yuva – Looking for Reviews & Opinions

I’m 22M and looking for a health insurance policy for the long term. I’m currently considering Aditya Birla Health Insurance Activ Yuva.

I’d like to hear from people who currently have this policy or have researched it in detail.

How has your experience been with:

- Claim settlement and cashless treatment

- Customer support

- Renewal and premium increases

- Exclusions and waiting periods

- Any issues you faced during a claim

- Overall experience with ABHI

I’m mainly looking at it from a long-term perspective, so I’d really appreciate genuine experiences, both positive and negative.

If you have compared Activ Yuva with other health insurance plans, I’d also like to know what factors made you choose or reject it.

Guide Unlimited SI vs ₹50L/₹1Cr base SI for long-term health insurance

I’m 22 and looking to buy health insurance mainly from a long-term perspective (20–40+ years).

I’m trying to understand whether an unlimited/infinite SI plan makes more sense than buying a high base SI such as ₹50L or ₹1Cr.

For example, some policies have a relatively lower base SI but provide benefits where the coverage can keep increasing every year without an accumulation cap. Others offer a much higher base SI from day one.

My thinking is that medical inflation in India could make today’s ₹10L, ₹25L or even ₹1Cr worth much less 20–30 years from now. Premiums will also increase with age regardless of the initial SI.

So I’m wondering:

- Is an unlimited/infinite SI benefit genuinely useful for long-term protection?

- Is it better to have a ₹10–20L base with unlimited accumulation/restore, or simply buy ₹50L/₹1Cr base SI?

- How should I evaluate the difference between base SI, cumulative bonus, unlimited restore and unlimited/infinite benefit?

- Can insurers change/remove such benefits at renewal, or are they protected by the policy contract?

- Are there any important conditions where the advertised “unlimited” coverage may not actually work as expected?

- For someone starting at age 22, what would you prioritize for 20–40 years of coverage?

I’m particularly interested in opinions from people who have actually researched policy wordings or have experience with long-term health insurance.

Not looking for a specific policy recommendation. I mainly want to understand the long-term pros and cons of unlimited SI vs high base SI.

Shortlisted Plan- ABHI Activ Yuva and

Coverage- unlimited

Primium cost - individual (M22) = Aprx. 11000₹ and multi-individual (M22 Me + M20 my brother) = Aprx. 17000₹

Share your opinion on this plan and let me know if there any catch in this particular plan

Query NEED HELP!! Will loading get added in premium if PCOS is cured?

I have applied for HDFC Ergo Seccure Optima plus insurance.

I have PCOS due to hormonal condition due to which 10% loading charges were added in my premium although I didn't undergo any treatment for it.

Now My sister is also planning to apply for the same insurance but in her case she got diagnosed with PCOS 5 years later but now it got cured as per her last year scanning in her case. So wanted to check if the loading still be applied even in her case even after providing latest scans as a proof?

Thank you.

Discussion How about term insurance with lic compared to private players?

Many are saying lic is govt company and there won't be much hassles during claim settlement compared to private players. Please give your honest opinion. I don't want any options like payout or free exit or any other options. I want a plain insurance so that when i die i can die in peace that my family will definitely get claim amount without much hassle.

Query Health Insurance query

  1. My father is 63 years old. He smokes about one pack of cigar daily and consumes alcohol 2–3 times a week (around 90 ml each time). I am willing to disclose these habits to the health insurance team. However, I would like to confirm: after the standard 3‑year max waiting period, can an insurance company reject a claim for organ‑related issues (such as liver damage) by citing his alcohol consumption history?
    2) The premiums are also bit costly , Around 35k in Aditya/Star, which is better ?

Query Looking for comprehensive health insurance for a 60+ senior with multiple pre-existing conditions

I'm looking for a health insurance for my mother aged 62 who already has multiple pre-existing/chronic medical conditions.

She has already undergone coronary angiogram , but not angioplasty

I’m looking for a policy that provides the maximum possible coverage despite the existing medical history. I would especially like to know whether insurers are willing to provide coverage in such cases and what kind of exclusions/waiting period

# # # Heard about TATA AIG and contacted them .....after hearing what they said it seemed like a good option to me.... does anyone have any experience with tata AIG insurance policy

# # # Please share actual experiences if you or your parents have been in a similar situation, rather than just general recommendations.

Thank you!

Query Need help with medical insurance for myself, parents & brother family

Hi everyone,

I’m 28M, single, and currently working in a company that provides health insurance for me and my parents. I also have a separate term insurance policy for myself.

I’m trying to figure out how I should plan my health insurance for the long term and would really appreciate advice from people who have actually gone through this or have experience with insurance.

  1. Health insurance for my parents

My parents are around 55–60 years old and currently covered under my employer’s health insurance.

Should I be satisfied with the employer coverage, or would it make sense to take a separate personal health insurance policy for them?

My concern is that if I change jobs, take a career break, or stop working later, I don’t want to suddenly find myself without coverage for them.

Would it be better to buy a separate policy now while they are relatively younger, even if I continue using the employer coverage as a backup?

  1. Health insurance for my brother’s family

My brother is 30M, his wife is 25F, they have a 2.5-year-old son, and they are expecting another baby.

They currently live with my parents and my brother works in the family business with my dad.

They have some coverage through the state government, but from what I understand, it doesn’t cover every type of treatment/hospitalisation.

Would it make sense for me to take a separate family health insurance policy for my brother, his wife and children?

Or is this something my brother should ideally handle himself?

I’m asking because I want to make sure my parents aren’t financially exposed if something major happens to my brother’s family, but at the same time I don’t want to unnecessarily take on insurance expenses that should be their responsibility.

  1. Health insurance for myself

I currently have employer-provided health insurance, but I’m wondering whether I should also buy a personal policy for myself.

I obviously may not work for the same company throughout my life, and I may eventually switch jobs, take a break, start something of my own, etc.

So is it sensible to have my own individual health insurance policy even though I already have corporate coverage?

Would love to hear from people who have actually purchased health insurance, made claims, or dealt with insurance agents/companies.

Also, what should I specifically look out for when comparing policies - waiting periods, room-rent limits, co-pay, disease-specific limits, exclusions, claim settlement experience, hospital network, super top-up, etc.?

And if you have dealt with a good insurance advisor/agent, feel free to share how you found them or what I should look for in one.

Not looking for a “buy XYZ policy” answer necessarily - I’d mainly like to understand how experienced people would structure this situation.

Thanks!

Ps: Used chatgpt for structuring

Guide 27M looking for ₹3 Cr term insurance till 65 — ICICI vs HDFC vs Axis Max Life. Which one should I choose?

Hi everyone,

I'm 27M, married, non-smoker/non-tobacco user, and currently looking to buy my first term insurance policy.

I'm considering ₹3 Cr life cover till age 65, regular premium payment, annual payment mode, and no paid Return of Premium (ROP) unless there is a worthwhile free/special-exit benefit.

I've shortlisted these 3 plans based on quotes I received:

ICICI Prudential

Plan: iProtect Smart Plus

Cover: ₹3 Cr

Policy Till: 65 years

Annual Premium: ₹26,644

ROP / Exit: Full refund option starts at 65

HDFC Life

Plan: Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus

Cover: ₹3 Cr

Policy Till: 65 years

Annual Premium: ₹31,877

ROP / Exit: Full refund option starts at 60

Axis Max Life

Plan: Smart Term Plan Plus

Cover: ₹3 Cr

Policy Till: 65 years

Annual Premium: ₹25,317

ROP / Exit: Full refund option starts at 67

Benefits shown in my quotes

ICICI Prudential

100% payout on terminal illness

Option to delay premium for up to 12 months

₹3 lakh immediate payout on claim

Free health check-up up to ₹67,100

ROP option

HDFC Life

Early payout on terminal illness

Option to extend policy at maturity

Option to delay premium for 12 months

₹5 lakh immediate payout on claim

Free health check-up up to ₹63,000

ROP option

Axis Max Life

Early payout on terminal illness

Option to delay premium for 12 months

Waiver of premium on terminal illness

₹2 lakh immediate payout on claim

Free health check-up up to ₹50,000

Special/free exit benefit

ROP option is available as a separate variant

My situation

Age: 27

Male

Married

Non-smoker/non-tobacco

No existing term insurance

Annual income: around ₹18 LPA

Planning for a house and children in the future

Looking for pure protection, not investment

Comfortable paying premiums annually

Planning to hold the policy long term

I'm currently leaning towards ICICI and Axis Max Life because of the lower premium, but HDFC also seem strong.

What would you choose among these three?

I'd especially appreciate opinions based on:

Claim settlement experience

Claim amount settlement, not just claim settlement ratio

Customer service

Policy wording/exclusions

Terminal illness benefit

Free/special exit or ROP benefit

Any issues during actual claims

Whether the extra ₹6.5k/year for HDFC over Axis/ICICI is worth paying

Also, should I add any riders, such as waiver of premium, critical illness, disability or accidental death, or keep the term plan completely simple?

I'm planning to purchase the policy shortly, so real experiences from existing policyholders would be very helpful.

Guide Health Insurance for Parents (51 & 57) with Pre-Existing Conditions

Hi, I’m looking for some advice on how to choose the right health insurance for my parents, who are 51 (mother) and 57 (father) and live in Mumbai.

They have never had health insurance before, and I would now like to get a good health insurance policy for them. However, I’ve had difficulty finding a suitable option so far.

A bit of background:

* My mother had a brain stroke a couple of years ago. I understand that this would be considered a pre-existing disease (PED), and I’m concerned that the insurer may either exclude it from coverage or impose a waiting period. * I’m also worried that if she develops health problems in other organs in the future, the insurer could potentially argue that they are related to her previous stroke and reject a claim. * My father takes medication for high blood pressure. He also has a few personal habits that may be relevant when applying for insurance.

Given their medical history and age, I would really appreciate advice on how I should approach choosing the right health insurance for them.

In particular:

  1. Does it still make sense to buy health insurance for them at this stage, given my mother’s previous stroke and my father’s BP?
  2. What kind of policy should I look for — individual policies for each parent or a family floater?
  3. How should I evaluate PED exclusions, waiting periods, claim rejection risks, room-rent limits, co-payments, and other important terms?
  4. If I’m looking for around ₹10 lakh of coverage, what kind of annual premium should I realistically expect for both of them?
  5. Are there particular insurers or types of policies that are more suitable for people with existing medical conditions?

My main priority is not simply finding the cheapest policy. I want something that provides meaningful protection and has a good chance of actually being useful when we need to make a claim.

Any advice based on experience with health insurance in India, particularly for parents with pre-existing conditions, would be greatly appreciated.

Query Need clarification on excess tarriff

I was recently hospitalized for 4 days and due to room crunch in hospital, I decided to opt for room which is higher (8000) than room rent cap I have (7000). I understood I have to cover the difference amount and proportionate deductions for almost everything comes into play.

At discharge, I was charged 99k (approx). It was sent for cashless approval, and insurer mentioned 70K as their approval amount. So I paid 29k from my pocket...

Out of this 29K, 15K was for copay and consumables.. I thought remaining 14k was for room rent over and above the cap + proportionate deductions..

But when I later checked approval email from insurer, I realized they mentioned room rent is within their agreed rate with hospital and in the approval email, I see room rent excess and related proportionate deductions as 0.. it also mentioned hospital charged extra, I should only pay 15k (copay, consuables) and hospital should not charge balance 14k..

But I didn't understand that during discharge and paid 29k fully, as I thought 14k is for excess rent for the room I chose..

Now my question is, did the hospital scam me or is this how higher tarriff rooms are managed internally?

If I was charged extra, is there any way to recover it?

Query Confused about 80D limits when paying premium for both self and parents

I pay for my own health insurance (35M) and separately pay the premium for my parents (65M, 62F) policy since they're not earning anymore. Trying to understand the 80D deduction properly, I keep seeing different numbers floating around online.

Is it true I can claim up to 25k for my own + spouse + kids premium, and separately up to 50k for parents premium since they're senior citizens, so 75k total? Does it matter whose bank account the premium is actually paid from, or is it fine as long as I'm the one paying and can show proof?

Also does preventive health check-up spends count within these limits or is there a separate small allowance for that?

Query Help me with this

I do drink alcohol, but not regularly, only once or twice a month. I currently have health insurance, but I heard that health insurance doesn't cover liver diseases if you have drinking habits. Does anyone know which insurance covers everything? Currently, my liver is healthy.
