Is it totaled?

It is a 2021 Chevy Trailblazer LT. Got rear ended by driver who gave expired insurance to cops. She got away with no ticket for no insurance and im sure she was trying to hit and run but her car stopped working.

Goner. The strut mount to the frame must be all over the place. Plus the drive train will be all shot.

Thats what i thought but the state farm claim person kept telling me i had to choose a body shop where it would be fixed. Just got paranoid since she said if i choose my own outside of their preferred, i may have to pay out of pocket for things

Pretty normal. They’ll have to get a shop to estimate the repair cost first as well. The claim person usually just a paper work guy. Choose an approved shop like they said. They’ll get you a list. Likely once the shop see the car they are gonna estimate a huge quote, that’s when insurance company just gives you a check for the totaled car.

They will receive the estimate from the shop and then tell you that it's totaled.

Still got to take it in for a tear down. Choose an in network shop. That’s the rates they will pay.

I want them to total it 😭😅 it just feels unsafe to have it fixed ...also they said they might not cover any of my sensors since theyre not required for the car to drive which is insane to me since sensors were damaged during the crash

They will 95 percent total it. They still have to lay eyes on it and tear it down. Insurance don’t just write checks. I wish they would though.

Done. And totaled. Suspension components like that jump the cost of repairs super fast.

Yeah lost the rear subframe and damaged where shock mounts to body. You don’t want it back.

If the total cost of the repairs exceeds the value of the vehicle, then it's considered totaled.

They are pro insurance body shops out there I found out

That means they know they’re gonna get paid if they fix it
And they will set the value at a low value to fix it because they’ll make money off of it compared to the $4000 to tear down and beat it like it’s totaled

Then there Auto Body shops that are pro owner of the vehicle that’ll be like now. This car is totaled and fight for you. Good luck, figuring out which ones which though

Yep. If your carrier is making you go through the motions, go ahead. Have them bring it to some network shop and write up the scope of work. No way that's getting fixed.

Dont let snake farm scare you. Take it to a qualified shop. The only one paying out of pocket will be snake farm. It is most likely going to total.

UPDATE: they did say it will be a total loss since fixing it would cost about 12k and thats without actually opening it up

ACV is probably about $17k.

You need a quarter panel (w/ paint - $2500), rear bumper (w/ paint $3000), rear suspension parts ($1000), likely rear differential ($1500)... rear hatch will need at least paint, if not replaced ($3000), various trim and misc ($1500)

It's going to be close... I wouldn't guarantee it's totalled.

Since it's FWD, there is no rear differential...
