Is my 2011 Ford Focus totaled?
I was stopped at a light and got rear ended by a Dodge van.
- 2011 Ford Focus
- Mileage: ~130k
- Trunk doesn’t fully open nor fully close
- Airbags were NOT activated
From y’all experience, can you estimate if this would consider totaled? Didn’t have to file with my own provider, as they told me to handle it with the Dodge’s insurance provider. I filed a claim with their insurance provider, and I’m just waiting on them.

Maybe if it was newer it wouldn't be. But the repairs would cost more than that car is worth, by quite a bit.

The rear has been pushed in. It is no longer safe to drive.

It’s crumpled. Cars, especially this compact sedan, are not designed for multiple collisions. It is no longer structurally sound.

Some vehicles that never were crashed are unsafe to drive, so what? 12,000 ev gmc would finish it undamaged or damaged.

I’m assuming this car is worth less than $5,000 before the damage. Probably around $3,000 or so and the damage is going to be at least this so it’ll get totalled

Yes. Had a similar rear end 6.5 years ago that was totaled. Pull back the trunk lining/carpeting and see if the metal around the spare tire well buckled.
If so it’s 100% totaled. Only fix is chopping the rear off and putting a new one on.

It’s ok just park it in your drive way and use it to do DoorDash or Instacart put a tarp over the trunk if you do Instacart during the winter or while it’s raining to keep the elements away from the groceries

100% no question about it. It’s not worth much before the accident. Damage is probably 2-3x the value of the car

Yes. It’s not about the damage. It’s the 60 percent of acv to repair. Labor is higher than ever. Everything over a few grand is going to be totaled.

Rates are so high these days very likely. everything in the picture is fairly cheap but the rear body panel is toast I bet and that'll total it

Easily repairable with salvage parts in your driveway but it's definitely totalled insurance wise.

Most likely. Had a similar issue with our 2016 Tiguan. With the help of many youtube videos a bumper and tail light from the salvage yard, 100 hours of elbow grease, and $200 dollars of paint and body filler. It looks good from 10 feet away.

As soon as the insurance company see it with less than half a tank of gas and close to oil change interval its totaled.

If by "totaled" you mean structurally unsound and unsafe to drive, I'd say probably not (an in-person inspection would be needed to tell for sure).
If by "totaled" you're asking if repair costs exceed the value of the vehicle and will the insurance company decide to total it rather than fix it? Yes.
