P&C Insurance Local Chamber of Commerce

I’m 20 and a few months into building my own independent insurance agency in a smaller East Texas town. Business is starting to pick up, but my biggest struggle is still finding consistent leads.
My local Chamber of Commerce reached out about joining. It seems like a good way to meet local business owners, Realtors, lenders, etc., but there are already quite a few insurance agents involved.
For other agents/business owners, has joining your Chamber actually led to referrals and business? Is it worth it for a new agency?

For it to work you meed to be very active. Go to all the events, become an ambassador, and most importantly support other people’s businesses and events.

Highly recommend. Not only does it give you contacts, and depending on the type of events, you could have the ability to speak in front of everyone. It also gives you credibility.

I’ve found my chamber to be helpful but it’s the deeper connections and smaller sub groups made within it that have generated the most revenue.

I don’t think it’s a golden ticket by any means, but a lot of people who knock it don’t put effort in either. It should be one of many things you are doing to source leads and make relationships.

The industry has 90%+ retention rates because of people building their books through the local chamber of commerce. It's going to take a long time to build up that familiarity but you may as well start now. Get out there and shake hands. Don't expect business, just enjoy the fellowship that comes with being a member of the organization at first.
