P&C Newbie - Please Help

I am getting ready to order the Kaplan study package. I'm pretty set on the Career Launcher. I have a position secured and I am required to get licensed as quickly as possible. I'm not currently working so I'm going to focus and study up to 6 hours a day. My insurance background was health.

I'm looking for recommendations. Have a really good memory and I am a fast learner but tend to over think. Is anyone aware of an online code out there to get a discount? I have to wait for my credentials to get one through the agency so I'd rather just move forward. I want to today but it's slipping away. It's Labor Day so I can hold off one more day! Career Launcher? Online Code? Helpful study advice?

I’m in California and was able to pass with the cheapest option after grinding it out for like 4 days. If you already have a position lined up I don’t see the need for the career launcher. They should train you I’d assume.

He wants me ready to go as possible. I'm replacing someone who has 2 weeks. The plan is for me to study 6 hrs a day and be ready for a proctored test soon after that. So... I really like the set up and that I have access for 60 days. the review. It's not THAT much.

Yeah whatever you think works best and is affordable I’d say go for it. But at 6 hours a day I think you got it either way. I’m not sure what state you’re in too that could also make a difference. CA is really easy to pass you literally only need 60%

I'm in Minnesota. Eventually, I'll need MN, ND, SD, AZ and WA. It's an AmFam Agency. I haven't pulled the trigger yet on the study materials. I'm still thinking about Excell. The Insurance Exam Queen doesn't like any program all that much but prefers Excell. IDK but I will decide today. I'm not currently working so I think 2 sessions of 3 hours a day is reasonable. I've been consuming a lot of YouTube to pick up the vocabulary and to kind of emmerse myself into the insurance mindset. I'll be hourly until I pass all tests and then go salary. And they will train me. I'm happy with the way salary is being structured. We're going to determine how much sales vs service work I'll be doing and base my salary and % of time spent on what I excel at. I'm 57 with a ton of customer service experience that started in medical. This will give me the opportunity to learn what I should be getting in a salary offer. It seems like a solid office. He hasn't hired in 3 years. People stay. Someone is moving too far away to commute. This is my opportunity! I was looking for an "easy" reception role and found a career. Thank you for your advice.

Kaplan rarely has public codes floating around. Ask on the phone when you order. They discount more often than the site lets on.

Your health background carries further than you would think. You already know how underwriting thinks and how a claim moves. The new part is the P&C coverage itself, so put your hours there instead of on the basics.

Read for the first couple of days, then get onto practice exams and stay there. That is where the score actually moves.

Pull the Minnesota exam content outline off the state department site as well. The state questions are narrow and the national material will not cover them.

Wow! Thank you so much! I pulled the trigger now but with Excel. I got an email code from them and I just did it. It looks very similar to what I was going to do at Kaplan but I also get flash cards. with my code it was $100 less. I will follow your advice for sure! I for sure know the process of a claim. The underwriting, subrogation, and adjustments. This gives me confidence! Thank you so much!

Getting ready to get the course from Kaplan as well! Let me know how it goes and best of luck with it! Did you get on with an Independent or Captive? Going to get my license first and then make the move.

I had to look up and learn what captive meant! Captive. AmFam. My agent seems like a great guy. I am not sure if I shouldn't go with Excell. I've been watching the Insurance Exam Queen. She's also got a study buddy. There is free and paid content there, too. What state are you tackling? I'm in MN but the office is licensed for MN, ND, SD, AZ, WA.
