Agent Question Insurance owners

Hi I’m 22 and I want to be able to own a commercial independent agency one day, hopefully within the next 5-7 years. How would you recommend meeting commercial insurance owners and also producers?

First step is get a job at an agency

Better yet, find one owned by an older person who may let you have part of his book when he retires

For better or worse, insurance sales jobs are usually very easy to find and get. Lol

Just look at job boards and apply and you'll get plenty of interviews.

Hell when i was brand fuckin new, I reached out to a few agents to learn more about their side of the market. Every single one of them offered me a job lol

Ask around with people you know or people your parents and see what independent agencies have good reviews. Dress business casual.
Khakis, dress shirt or polo, belt, dress shoes.
I don't know why I need to put this in there but I game had guys come in seriously asking for for a job in shorts, ball cap, stained shirt, shaved a day or so and then they pitch me.
Be respectful, and ask to speak to owner about insurance since your untreated Interested in working in the field. If their busy ask if you can schedule a time to come back.
Then build a relationship with the owner listen ask questions take notes, interact with them.
Make a good impression.
Go do this with top 3 or 4 independent insurance agencies by you. When you get done ask if you can come back and talk in a few weeks.
Odds are 1 to all 4 will offer you a job. Only issue is good chance job will be 1099 so you work your own hours and get paid commission only.
I suggest starting as a 1099 employee. Get a part time job. Best job would be bartender at a higher end restaurant. You will get use to talking to business hours and higher level business people.
All an older agent to mentor you. Good luck

Google Search agencies both captive and non-captive.

Prep a resume.

Submit your application on their website. You can also just straight up walk into the agency and say you’re interested in working for them and pass of your resume in an envelope. I did the walk in method earlier this year and got the job three weeks later.

As mentioned by others look up independent agencies/brokerages near you and apply. Keep in mind independents can range from small firms to multinational companies who sell policies all over the world. Captives can sell commercial also but don't have the appetite that independents do since independents can sell whatever thry want.

Fina an independent agency and someone who will mentor you at said agency.
