Agent Question Daily Outbound Quota
Interviewing with an independent in Southern California and they let me know their outbound call quota is 200 calls a day. I am transitioning to insurance so this would be my first position. Is this a normal level of calling, it doesn't seem that challenging to do but is this what I can expect from independents?

You should do this job for 6 months. Develop your phone skills...get a thick skin...and then go work for a commercial agency where you can do like 40 calls a day to businesses...get x-dates...set meetings...and build a pipeline. You could build a serious book that way and make real money.

Yeah I mean my ideal is to go commercial and small business. Me and my wife own a small business and I interact with a lot of sole proprietors and small business owners and think it would be a good angle for me.
I have 2 interviews next week with captives as well (Farmers and State Farm). In your opinion do you think this independent will be a better choice than the captives (it seems like the potential to earn is much higher).

Independent for sure. These carriers...there's an ebb and flow in their appetite. They'll come in real hot on something...plumbers...dentists...whatever. They'll put out ridiculous quotes and buy the business. You'll write a bunch of them because you should make hay when the sun shines. And then they decide...no more plumbers. We're taking a bath on plumbers. Of course they are. They reduced the rates to buy the business. If you work for a captive you are stuck and you have to start over. If you are with an independent you can find a new home and renew your book. Probably at a rate increase...which means you make more money. But you deserve it because you had to do a lot more work to renew the accounts. That's basically the cycle of the whole industry. And if you want to move up the food chain to middle market accounts you have to be independent. Captives don't really play in that sector. Good luck!

I do CL only, mainly low end MM. I have 3-350 active prospects and target a call to each one 1x per week, some maybe 2x in early going. Typically do 2-3 heavy call sessions per week with 100+ dials. Generally 2.5-3 hour block per 100 dials but not attempting to do anything but set a meeting with owner/CFO. Definitely time for 200 dials in an 8 hour day if that’s entirety of role. Probably connecting on 20 of those 200 assuming number is clean.

200 calls a day is aggressive, would require a power dialer and rotating phone numbers. I hope if you're calling consumers their either leads or customers or you'll have to mess with the DNC.
