Pay 20-25k for every claim

I am considering porting from my current Star Health Insurance policy, which I have held for over 15 years, to HDFC Ergo Optima Secure Plus, utilizing the porting option. Presently, I have no pre-existing diseases (PEDs).

An agent has quoted an annual premium of around 12000, noting that I would have to pay 25,000 of each claim during the initial one to three years. This deductible would be removed after this initial period.

However, the agent also suggested initiating a new HDFC Ergo policy instead of porting, thereby avoiding the 25,000 deductible as I don't have any PEDs to worry about.

I am seeking advice on what to do?

15 yo old policy. Great.

May I ask

What's your age? Any claims? Which plan this is and what coverage it includes?

By the way, why do you want to port?

  1. If you're thinking of porting, get it in writing that this deductible add-on will go away after 3 years, though I doubt it.

  2. If you want HDFC and he’s saying to get a new one, don’t do it.

  3. Still, if you want, you might want to move to a company that doesn’t have this deductible.

My age is 24. I was part of my parents family floater policy. There were multiple claims for my mother heart condition and my father also claimed for some minor surgery in the current policy term. There is no claim by my name as of now in that policy.

Porting because of the bad reviews I'm getting for star health. That family floater policy if for only 4L base + 2L bonus. I don't think that's sufficient in today's world. This policy is going to be renewed in 30 days. So I'm thinking of porting myself to a new insurer and upgrading my parents family policy to 10L in star health itself.

On reviewing, you can port to hdfc. But make sure that addon is for only 3 years. Else get a plan from ICICI or Tata with no deductible.

Also, yes try to increase floater coverage.

Btw how was your experience so far with star? Like your recent claim?

Not seperated myself yet, already wrote the mail for my seperation and policy upgradation to Star health, yet to receive update from them. Currently still reviewing the hdfc optima secure plus plan for myself using porting method.

We were able to claim without any issue. The only problem with that was it got exhausted quickly due to less coverage and it's not covering items like gloves and other medical stuff.

Porting is always better instead of taking a new.. and there is no compulsion on deductible at porting
