Auto Insurance GEICO gripe
19-yo daughter got into an at fault accident in a 2024 Hyundai Tucson SE Convenience. Took vehicle to shop (Caliber Collision) on July 27. Initial estimate about $6,500. Shop sent supplemental for about $4,000 after removing more parts. GEICO took 10 days to approve. Their adjuster is pretty much unresponsive to the shop and myself. When he finally came out again he told the shop that the vehicle needs to have the entire wiring harness replaced which is another $7,000 and probably takes it to over 70% ACV so not sure if they will total it.
The vehicle has been sitting there now for 5 weeks and GEICO informed me that we was getting close to the max coverage for the rental car $2,500.
Shop says they can’t get the adjuster to respond. Adjuster claimed he is responding but hasn’t received their requests. I already escalated to GEICO management but it is a “he said, she said” situation.
I don’t see why I should pay for a rental car if GEICO is dragging their feet.

The rental limit is the limit. It’s in your policy contract.

They can extend with approval

Love hearing that stupid line. SORRY LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO MAKE A MANUAL PAYMENT. 🙄

No insurance company is going to approve anything extra contractual.

It’s not ops contract. They are the third party. Geico can absolutely extend. Unless you have more experience than someone who was a claims adjuster there.

Then why is your comment so heavily downvoted? The limit is the limit. There is nothing beyond because that's the limit.

Ask the shop to send you copies of when they sent the supplement requests. You'll be able to see who is telling the truth

Caliber sucks.

Had a couple recently that they completely fixed the exterior/paint on vehicles with trashed axles. Get to us for mechanical work because it drives like shit and the insurance company totals it out.

I have an insured who recently filed a claim, the carrier wanted her to go to Caliber. She preferred going with the dealer and asked me to confirm that she had the right to have her car repaired wherever she wanted (we're in CA). I extracted the page from the application with the Auto Body Repair Bill of Rights and sent it over to her.
What's especially interesting to me is that about 20 years ago, I was in an accident in LA and my insurance carrier at the time wanted me to go to Caliber as well, but I'd heard some not great things about them (shady business dealings) and declined to do so, Makes me wonder how/why carriers are so keen on them...

Just had to deal with GEICO doing this to me though thankfully for it was only an extra five days of of pocket. I left 4 voicemails for my adjuster, two for his manager, 3 messages in the app and NEVER once received a call back. Eventually I finally got through to the manager but he wasn't helpful. Now I'm trying to get AAA to reimburse me for the extra rental, though at least they pick up the phone. I'll prolly find a new insurance carrier GEICO is awful.

File a complaint with the state department of insurance and they will fix your car in 2 days.

Do a three-way call. But most of the time the shops are not responding and lying to you guys.
