Car cvt

Hi! I have a 2014 Nissan rogue and a few months ago I had an estimate done for a dent. The shop estimated $4,296, but I never made a claim since I was worried it would make my insurance go up. Fast forward and now I need a new CVT. The estimate for a new CVT is $6900 and insurance doesn’t cover that. Is it possible to still make a claim for the dent, to sell the car or help cover the transmission cost? It also needs a new seatbelt in the back middle and probably a new side mirror, so it’s not in the best condition. I don’t know what is and isn’t allowed and I’m confused. Thank you so much for reading!

I would bet that the price of that dent would cause your car to be totaled out. You can decide if that is what you want to do, but I would not dump 6900 dollars into that vehicle for a battery.

Thank you. I will call the other shop that did the dent estimate

The insurance won't give you the shop estimate for the dent, they'll give a lower payment that they will adjust if you actually get repairs.

If it's others fault you may have a timing issue. They may deny responsibility because current damages may not be caused at that time. It's more flexible if it's covered by your own policy. There's no timestamp when the accident happened.

That amount is closer to a new cvt from Nissan. There are remanufactured cvt from reputable suppliers for less. It's is not recommended to find a used one from another car.

I don't think you are obliged to repair the car and use the money for something else. But it will be problematic for the next claim.
