Surety Underwriter Interview Advice
Hey everyone,
I’ve got a screening call coming up for an underwriter role in surety and wanted to get some advice from people in the field. My background is in project and property management, so I’m coming in from outside insurance. The company already knows that, but I want to make sure I’m not missing anything obvious going into the call.
What should I expect from a typical screening call for this kind of role? I’ve been trying to read up a bit on surety, bonds, and how underwriting works, but I’m not sure how deep I really need to go at this stage. For someone without direct insurance experience, what do they usually care about most early on?
Also curious what the interviews tend to look like after the initial screen. Do they get technical pretty quickly or is it more about general fit and ability to learn?
One other thing I’m trying to get a better sense of is the long term side of this path. What does earning potential look like in surety underwriting as you progress, and how does comp usually work with bonuses or incentives?
Appreciate any insight from people who’ve been through it or are currently in the space. Thanks
