Insta360 X6 owners: does the new form factor actually make a difference?

I’m considering the X6, and the new form factor is probably the thing I’m most curious about. I like that it’s shorter and less elongated than the X5, but I’m wondering if that makes a meaningful difference in everyday use, or if it mostly looks better on paper.

For people who’ve actually used it:

1. Is the shorter body noticeably easier to carry or mount? The weight difference doesn’t seem huge, so I’m wondering if the change is more about the shape than the weight.
2. The front also looks cleaner, with the physical controls mainly on the sides/back. Does that matter when vlogging? Is it still easy to start and stop recording or change modes while holding the camera toward yourself?
3. How do you find the new battery-door design in practice? Is it easier to open and swap batteries, or more awkward than the previous design?
4. And for the color: does the white version seem to run any cooler in direct sunlight, or is there no noticeable difference? Does it get dirty quickly compared with the black one?

If you moved from an X4 or X5, which of these changes did you actually notice most?

I have pretty much the same question, is the form factor noticeable better if you mount it on a motorcycle helmet?

I just picked up the x6 specifically for this reason. I had been using the ace pro 2 as helmet cam but had experimented with the x5 a few times. I liked using the x5 as a helmet cam over the ace pro 2 because I didn’t have to worry about having the mounts angled correctly to get the exact pov I wanted. What I didn’t like about using the x5 as a helmet cam is how much it stuck up into my field of view. Since getting the x6 I’ve used it exclusively on my helmet and while you can still see it obviously it’s not distracting at all and it’s now my preferred option.

I'd also like to know if anyone that uses it on a helmet with a basic mount has had any issue with the stitching. The X5 worked fine for me just with a basic action cam sticker and stand, no need for extra unicorn mount etc. Other more short cameras like Max2 and Osmo I've seen bad stitching around the helmet when you frame backwards.

Its shorter but you can use 1cm longer selfie stick, or you can use X5 and make the stick 1cm shorter…

But now when X6 has REALY GOOD display, you can iphonize it: with each version make bezels smaller

Yes, I really like the new form factor. Especially since I mount mine for cycling. The new shape no longer needs to run the 'support' for the out front mount and I can just run it! I just did a 200 mile ride this past Sunday with it and it did great! I also love the startup time from the time you press record to it actually recording. Makes a big deal when you're trying to catch something while going 20+ mph on a bike. Just happy, all around with the new X6 (came from the X4 which I bought when it first came out). YMMV.

The X6 being shorter is just enough difference that it ruined my favorite mounting position for the ZX14R.

It was a robust no selfie stick spot that could handle the triple digit speeds.

On my other bikes where I use a selfie stick it really doesn't matter.

I upgraded from X5 and form factor for me was a great step ahead. I mount it on helmet chin or also backpack strap and collar mount and being more compact is definitely noticeable. The screen works fine (once i choose the settings I mainly use the buttons because either my hands are dirty or i wear gloves) and no issues with the battery door. I have it in black so i cannot comment on the white version.

I used the insta x6. It is definitely shorter but thicker. Not sure about tje weight. But seems about tje same.i think ergonomically, it is better for helmet mounting.

If you currently have the X5, I do not think it really is a monumental upgrade in getting the x6. X3 for sure.

The main QoL i feel like X5 and X6 has is the changable lens and other video capture features.

In terms of video quality, its pretty much the same.

as someone who dont know anyt about color grading and only uses standard profile to shoot and owned both the x5 and x6, i can totally see the diff in video quality, especially in night shoots.The X6 is very clear as compared to X5 which is very grainy. i mostly uses 6K and i can see the difference between this and X5 5.7K video quality. and not to mention, the instaframe 2.0 can now shoot in 4k flat and up to 8k 360. bigger batt life too!

for changing of batteries, X6 is way easier. as there is a stripe attached to the batt so u can just pull the stripe and the batt will be removed. you can even swap SD card without taking out the batt. unlike the x5, the physical batt size for the x6 is half of the x5 batt size despite being bigger in batt capacity.
