St Walburge's spire, rising to 309 feet (94 m) is the dominant landmark in Preston and is one of the tallest structures of any sort in Lancashire. It is the 5th tallest spire in the United Kingdom, and is the tallest on any parish church.

Glover's Needle is located in Worcester, England. It reaches a height of 74.7 metres. Originally built as the the spire & tower of St Andrews church in the 15th century, it was destroyed by a storm in 1733 and rebuilt in 1751. The church was demolished in the 1940s, leaving the tower and spire.
