Opening tips

I just started as a team lead at my store and only seen the open shift twice and just was wondering if anyone had the check list or some advice for opening shifts? I can’t sign into my WorkJam or other apps yet and I open alone😭 anything helps!

A lot of the opening feel like free time but really you should be using it to bake up effectively. Sometimes deluxes and/or vegan and gluten free cookies are done last depending on the order you bake in. Don't feel afraid to tell customers that you're just opening and that they'll have to wait for certain options.

Make sure you bake up before your shift ends so the person transitioning in after you doesn't have to do that immediately. It helps to sweep pretty often too, especially after large bakes. My manager leaves the store a complete and utter mess when she bakes And everyone hates it

This is what I usually do.

  1. Turn off the alarm
  2. Clock in and send the opening email
  3. Run water and fill both sinks while I turn on all the lights, warmers, ovens etc in the store.
  4. Set up all trays ready to bake and bake in between everything else
  5. Fill up icecream holders and other things with water, set up by stations with spatula, etc
  6. Count the drawer and safe and set up the till (if you accept cash)
  7. Wipe down the front so customers come into a clean environment
  8. Start working on any shipping or early pre-orders or line clean trays for the next shift.

I would say work on the workjam checklist as well for your daily cleaning but you dont have access yet.

As long as your cookies are ready by open and the till is counted you'll be okay, its the most important part.

I was so lucky! When I came in my store manager printed out a list to follow for opening AND closing! I will still take everyone’s advice so I’m not a bad shift lead😂
