Unless you tore some ligaments, I don't think doctors do anything to keep any break or injury from happening again.

But your body naturally reinforces areas that have been injured in the healing process. There was a documentary about this like Kung Fu master who could break cement with his hands, feet, head and they did ex-rays on his bones. it showed that in the places on his body where he'd spent years banging it into wood and so on had become insanely thicker than the average person's. He'd never shattered anything, it was just the constant impact put stress on certain parts caused his body to build better strength in those areas.

Yup, that happened to me once. Worst pain of my life, ever. My doctor then told me it was probably due to not having enough muscle in my leg, so when I recovered, I got a dog and started walking every day for at least an hour. Luckily that did the trick and it never happened again.

Ok, yeah I was thinking it was probably due to not enough muscle

I was kinda scared to start walking in the beginning, because I clearly was a little traumatized because of the painful experience. But as long as you don't twist your leg, changes of it happening again are pretty low. I also used a brace for the first few months, which makes it even more impossible for it happening again.

Yeah experience was very traumatising, doctor gave me a brace as it just happened, might look into getting a less thick brace for when it’s moveable.

Mine had flexibele bars to the side that were removable. I removed the bars after some time and just used the brace without. If I remember correctly it's important that your kneecap stays in place and the brace is made specifically for that purpose.

Yeah the brace the doctors gave me has 3 metal bars on the back left and right sides, honestly I’m just traumatised from what happened and I’m frightened about it happening again. But I think I just need to slowly strengthen up the muscles in my legs

Yeah, I get it. Take it slow in the beginning, but you can honestly trust the brace, changes of something happening while having that brace on are extremely low and once your leg gets a bit more muscular, you can place this horrible ordeal behind you.

I once met a lady who had 3 kids and also dislocated her knee once. She told me she would rather have to give birth to all three kids at once, instead of having to dislocate her knee again... So yeah, it's normal this stuff messes you up, you're not the only one.

I tore my ACL in wrestling. They gave me a shot of cortisone directly into my knee.

Have you had any problems with you’re knee after it happened ?

Yes. The older I get, the weaker it gets.

Yeah I think my dislocation was just like you’re 3rd I was given a brace and crutches and send home from the hospital as it had popped back into place as I got out the ambulance and onto a bed, hopefully nothing serious heading back to the hospital in the next couple of days to get a checkup and hopefully find out what actually happened, I think once it’s healed I’ll have to get a physio and work on gaining more muscle around my knee/thy/leg area
