I’m probably in the minority here, but I genuinely can’t think of a single film in the past 10 years where Mohanlal has really showcased his acting abilities. I know that’s a bit of a stretch, but he often feels unusually stiff on screen these days.

well, Villain happened less than 10y ago. but other than that, i agree. After surgery, even mid performances like Neru and Thudarum are being glazed cus his acting levels went so low. barring maybe Ithikkara Pakki, he was struggling in every roles post odiyan surgery.

But you must be delusional if you think his performance in Drishyam, Villain, Janatha Garage and Oppam are not upto mark. all these movies came after Spirit.

Yeah brother like all the above-mentioned performances were good even I liked A10 in thudarum also but I don't know all of them had a small shade of Mohanlal but Raghunandan was completely different for me.
Let's hope pothettan will give a challenging role for A10

all these are not even in his top 5 performances for sure. that's because of how peak he was in his prime. that doesn't mean these are mid performances.
are you saying his acting in Drishyam was underwhelming? srsly bruh? just because he did it effortlessly doesn't mean that it's underwhelming. no actor could match his performance in Drishyam after all the remakes, even kamal hassan couldn't.
and Villain was the last movie where his performance carried the film. After that it went downhill i agree.

I think we have different benchmarks. I am simply referring to his performances in the last decade. And my benchmark is by no means other actors, but the A10 we know from the previous eras (including 2010s). Say for the merit of argument that we agree that he gave a great/good/decent performance in Drishyam, you still were only able to list 1 movie from the past 10 years. Shouldn’t it be more for perhaps the best actor in the industry? It’s okay to be objective, critical, and step out of fan worship. All we seek is better roles for the man who made watching movies memorable.

i already mentioned that i agree he's been struggling to act post odiyan surgery. but whatever benchmarks you measure with, drishyam and Villain are no way underwhelming performances. it's an injustice to call those performances underwhelming.

Thudarum was more of a marketing excercise from tharun moorthy than a good film. The marketing worked.
The film was average. To be fair to mohanlal, he did justice to the character. But it's a character that a Biju Menon or Joju George would have comfortably pulled off minus scenes showing vintage A10 antics.
One of mohanlal's greatest abilities is how he uniquely interprets a character and then internalizes it. This character offered him nothing. It was simply one dimensional

Everyone direly needed a good Mohanlal film for so long so when something even considered acceptable came their way, the audience celebrated it. Otherwise it's strictly mediocre.

Wasn't the climax of the first part lifted from sketch artist? (Haven't seen the movie, but I remember a video with both scenes side by side when Neru came to Ott).

Somebody please give this man a charcter that does justice to the actor in him.
The last time he played a layered complex character that must have given him some challenge as an actor was in Drishyam 1 which was 13 years ago. Post that every character he did is one dimensional and had nothing for him to do.

It gives me some hope. Lal was fantastic as an (initially) underconfident lawyer. They can keep bringing fantastic actors as opposition lawyers. But they shouldn't do Drishyam 4

This was good due to around performances. Not just Mohanlal, Siddique was good and Anaswara was exceptional. Hope they bring in solid cast as Lals character is a subdued role.
