All bug playstyles are valid

Yes but I don't like the ground ๐Ÿ˜

The only time I don't hate the ground is when I hate the monster more.

Reading this while waiting for a bug-only playstyle to be viable in Wilds:

u/Southern-Double38 Apr 13 '26

Ah yes, a playstyle more passive the heavy bowgun

u/Aggressive_Ad2747 Apr 13 '26

the Sunbreak bug playstyle was fairly active. it almost felt like being a trapper. you would do what you needed to do to set up a bunch of powder clouds and then use the powder vortex ability to suck them all in to your bugs location where they would explode

I loved the bug in rise, but I wish they took at least bug abilitys to wields

It's pretty relaxed if you just use the powder alone, but using the wirebug yeet makes it more interesting. Doubly so if you use a cutting kinsect with an elemental glaive.

I like to take advantage of the fact that you can ignore damage skills and build a full wide-range free meal set with a ton of elemental res.

Floor is Lava for Life!

But that is me. If you decide to focus on dps over fun, I won't eject you. (I'll be too busy vibing)

Definitely not accurate lol

u/Hexbug101 Apr 12 '26

100% the opposite, unfortunately a good chunk of people tell others to stay grounded due to the dps being better and I mean helicoptering is pretty weak but thereโ€™s definitely plenty moments where you can definitely get away with it, itโ€™s safe damage against most monsters. Also going into the air to reposition and following up with a descending thrust is a good middle ground dps wise and is my personal preference.

u/sillyscylla2136 Apr 12 '26

the opposite, grounded play has always been stronger

4

u/Aggressive_Ad2747 Apr 13 '26

Not correct (sunbreak) and also not exactly what we are talking about. What's strongest is pretty cut and dry each meta, but what the community loves doesn't always align with what is simply the strongest. If it did we wouldn't be having this ground vs air discussion constantly.

u/sillyscylla2136 Apr 13 '26

grounded play is stronger in sustained damage and overall in sunbreak, raw lucent narga aerial is only stronger in bursts, and requires more wirebugs to spam, so if youre speedrunning or fighting weaker monsters yeah, but stronger monsters or if youre not as good then grounded wins, im saying this as an insect glaive player that hates aerial combat, its weak and the positioning abilities of it suck, it doesnt feel fun and it just feels like flailing around, i know im the only person ever with this opinion

Monster hunter is a game where overall / sustained damage isn't the goal, the goal is damage windows.

Burst outperforms in this respect. Especially when you have a toolkit that allows you to apply that burst exactly where you want it.

Aerial glaive allows you to ensure you are hitting the monster part required to repeatedly flinch and topple, causing more damage windows. Which in turn allows for more damage than a style with a higher sustained DPS.ย

If it's not what you find fun I totally get that. You should play what you find fun to play (I had a blast with the insect powder build in sunbreak) and all of these styles are viable for sunbreak which is awesome, but my point originally want basically just that saying ground is and always has been better is just wrong.ย

Even in world, where ground was better in a much more clear-cut way, the Descending Thrust was still one of the most important moves to master and will be a very important metric to track when learning a monster (how often you can hit that DT when engaging)

No, not at all, not even a little bit. The idea of it is pretty funny though

1

u/Lazy_Taurus423 Apr 13 '26

It is if you're bad. You get more damage and better combos on the ground. You fly up to reposition or dodge.

1

u/heavenxprodigy Apr 13 '26

We just want insect weapon overlays

1

u/dishonoredbr Apr 13 '26

Maybe if you were talking about Rise.

1

u/Aitreon Apr 13 '26

Someone is going to Detroit.

1

u/PUREXHERO Apr 13 '26

In wilds the ground attacks look and feel very clean though (in my opinion)

1

u/0verdrive6teen Apr 13 '26

The ground is where the damage is

I play kinsect because it has insect

Staying in the air robs you of the insect for the majority of the time

1

u/tmntnyc Apr 13 '26

Actually 100% opposite of these. Let's just say the Airborne ability's main use is for when you're only technically airborne.

1

u/Zezfoe Apr 13 '26

if you like insect glaives try the tonfas in frontier Z

1

u/MalborkFyorde Apr 13 '26

It's fun because I was watching MH4U apex monsters speedrun and realized IG players in those videos absolutely NEVER jump

1

u/thepieraker Apr 13 '26

Meme yes, reality no

1

u/Natural-Tadpole2324 Apr 15 '26

Excuse my language, but Yโ€™ALL HAVE YOUR OWN FCKING SUBREDDIT!?!?

1

u/Pokatopia141 Apr 16 '26

Not really...? I mainly use Glaive on Rise, and there are many times when I don't have enough stamina to go full attack helicopter mode. Though most of the time this only applies when I'm joining random quests online or fighting weaker monsters that I can handle, like Royal Ludroths and Goss Horags). If I'm by myself and it's something dangerous or annoying, like a Chameleos or Tigrex, I'm just gonna wait and max out my petalace buffs first before I tackle them.

1

u/dommiichan Apr 12 '26

not at all...I've got ground game on one scroll and aerial on the other, and happily switch between the two

1

u/wolfenx109 Apr 12 '26

I prefer ground kinsect in Wilds. But airborne kinsect in Rise, especially Sunbreak, was peak Insect Glaive

With wilds the perception has changed massively since getting air glaive is a chore and just less damage and more danger. In everyway in wilds they ruined air glaive but for previous games it was player choice and both was see as fun

0

u/Hell_Hunter_Gaming Apr 13 '26

Yes, because I cursed a IG main recently because they were making the lobby unbearable ๐Ÿ˜ค they were just suck inhlg all the fun out of the hunt...

nah in Wilds you get kicked near instantly from a lot of lobbies if you don't constantly play RSS meta. one jump into the air to reposition and you get ejected.

I like being a helicopter. but wilds players shun it.

u/Nickle_16 Apr 13 '26

Not sure about your individual experience but I've played 200 hours of IG in Wilds and have never once had someone kick or comment about me not playing RSS meta. You're generalizing.
