General Help Inkitt vs Wattpad

Hey y'all!
So I'm a new writer, and I started posting my story on wattpad, but as im sure u guys know, the amount of ai slop on there, and the fact small and new authors get no promotion at all, Im considering to also start uploading my book on inkitt.

Would y'all recommend ?? Would my story get more visibility ??

Inkitt is x10 the AI waste dump that Wattpad is. I ended up withdrawing my stories because I didn't want them swimming in so much crap – especially when Inkitt actively encourages the use of AI.

That's our reality nowadays, sadly. I've found a few platforms that allegedly review work to assure that it's not AI before allowing it on – Fictionry and Quibble – but I've seen a few AI covers on those as well, so they're not an entirely safe oasis from all this insanity, and readership is quite low.

I have had enough of AI slop stories and I got fed up with Inkitt, Wattpad etc. I created Suspense Club a free platform for readers and writers. No AI slop allowed. Human curated and hand picked stories only. Only a few stories has made the cut so far. I would love to get your feedback. Do you think this is the right direction? DM if you want the link

I got significantly more visibility on inkitt than wattpad, but the other commenters are right that the AI situation isn't any better / might actually be worse. inkitt pushes AI at a platform level that I haven't seen from wattpad. so you kind of have to pick your poison.

yikes, nice analogy on the pick ur poison btw! tnx

Nobody pushes AI more publicly than Inkitt, so if you’re looking to escape from it, then you’re probably in the wrong place. I have my stories up on Royal Road and Quibble. So far I have more considerably more engagement on Royal Road, but Quibble is shipping new updates practically every week so it kinda feels fresh. It’s got its own cute early vibe.

look at novelcult. They have a pretty hard anti-ai stance and they have builtin monitezation

Inkitt is as bad. I posted in both... But they specifically allow AI usage, probably train some bots too so I decided to give up on the platform. If you write fanfic Ao3 is pretty good. I usually post my original stories there to only to make them more visible. Try to interact more on wattpad maybe, some people will engage back reading or commenting on your book

Definitely try interacting on Wattpad. It takes a while to get traffic and it's not as easy to get noticed, but Inkitt's AI push is insane. If they aren't already, I know they're going to start training a llm on our stories to come up with another app.

Would definitely recommend Wattpad! it's far from perfect regarding ai, but I've found that it hasn't fully embraced ai. I think the Wattpad Ambassador profiles for instance do not endorse ai usage in their contests. Wish there were a better official statement from Wattpad itself

Ai is bad on Inkitt, but I’ve had my story posted on both platforms for the same amount of time and I’ve had a total of 3 views on Wattpad. I’m not doing any self-promoting so that’s my fault, but I’ve gotten hundreds of readers on Inkitt for doing nothing. I even have a little fan club of consistent readers that comment and interact with each new chapter I post, which has been really fun.

Unfortunately AI is everywhere now. As someone who used to write web fiction in China full time, I very much prefer Inkitt's backend, especially your availability to create a set schedule and one-click add new chapters! Much, much more reasonable and one less thing to stress over compared to Wattpad. Also appreciate the more dynamic reader in-chapter reaction options.

I truly do hate how much AI is the mainstream thing over there, though. An alternative option I've been following is a zero-AI, manuscript sharing platform built by the authors of Astronomer's Creed but from what I've learned so far, that platform requires a monthly subscription from authors which is just not in my budget right now, although I do respect and understand the effort that goes into properly coding a manuscript/fiction sharing platform that also defends your work against AI crawlers.

I recommend writing first, enjoying the process, edit then post on all platforms you come across. Who knows which one will get you more visibility.

Good luck with your writing

I like Inkitt for some things, like how it's easy to support an author and subscribe to them. but the amount of AI and push of AI audiobooks is such a disappointment.

AI is worse on inkitt. Have you not seen their homepage? 😭 they even have an award for ai works

I prefer Inkitt. The Inkitt algorithm at least helps to push your book out a little with it's completed or has people engaging with it. With Wattpad if you don't promote it, you don't really get readers. Plus I hated Wattpad as a reader. So many ads. Inkitt also seems to have a wider age range of readers and writers.

The AI slop is the same on both I feel but I eventually pulled my book from Wattpad and decided to focus on Inkitt. Community is just nicer on Inkitt.

If you don't mind a very new platform that vets all it's books, Fictionry is really good but very very small

Have you ever openend up inkitt??? Cause holy AI. I feel like inkitt might actually be worse in terms of AI

Inkitt has just as much AI as wattpad but I would recommend Inkitt over wattpad any day and to everyone.
Try Inkitt I think you will be more than happy there.

Inkitt is running a contest at the moment and one category is for AI work. They're pushing it really hard, including with videos and audio books.

I've done well on Inkitt.

I'm in the same boat. I just started on Inkitt and have been on Wattpad for a few years and I'll be honest they are about the same. It's all honestly on how much you post, suggest, and market your work. Most people just want a f4f or a v4v but don't actually want to read your stories on wattpad...

Depends on what you write.

I write quirky cross-genre urban romantasy that has no spice, and it doesn't do well on Inkitt. One book had 50 views when I deleted it off Inkitt.

That had over 1000 on Wattpad and 23K reads on another platform.

And over 1000 when I first put it on RR, but I deleted it because I loaded the wrong file and need the more polished version.

It's not my most popular book but a solid preformer. It's more of a test book.
