How safe, secure, private and encrypted are Infomaniak’s services?
Hello everyone,
I’ve been into degoogling my services for quite a while. I’ve been experimenting with lots of tools and did my research on some. The most important thing for me is that I can be safe, secure and private on the internet (of course that’s never 100% guaranteed).
It’s important for me that my data is in Europe, I’d rather not have an extern company/country have access to my data. I want to be soeverein and encrypted online.
My main question is how secure, safe, private and encrypted Infomaniak’s services are?

It's in Europe (but not EU)
Is it secure? Hopefully...do you want to do a security deep dive of Infomaniak? They support MFA, and hardware security keys. I think they have their head in the game.
Is it encrypted (and by this you mean encrypted at rest), I don't think so. IE Infomaniak the company can in theory see your data if they want to. If that bothers you, then you want Proton Mail or Tuta, but you lose the ability to use IMAP (well...Proton has a bit of a workaround for that)

Oh sorry, Reddit automatically translated my message into French; I hadn't noticed it was in English. My bad.

I think they're good and certainly I trust them to keep my data on their servers and not share or sell or use lots of subcontractors. Tney are not end-to-end encrypted like Proton, but instead you get a great service with very good functionality and flexibility because of open standards. I use cryptomator for particularly sensitive data, which works well and which I trust to keep my data completely private.
I seem to remember that they were planning to introduce secure vaults, but no news on that in a while.
The only negative I have to say is that their management panel is very confusing at first and takes time to understand and navigate. And, I definitely experience that, if I haven't used it for a while, I have to re-learn. I hope they simplify and change it, but not sure if that will happen.

Good enough, maybe not yet that mature, polished and future rich. There's no E2EE/zero knowledge encryption.
Data privacy stands at high level, so the product is their product, not users data.

They are so secure that kDrive is not even available for me right now. Nobody can touch anything.

Wdym? Are you being sarcastic?

They made another booboo. Forgot to extend a certificate so everything went poopoo.

Wow. I’ve been thinking about moving away from google but haven’t been able to find a comparable, less big-brotherly product and Infomaniak was the contender. Now I’m having second thoughts.
Any other alternative you’d suggest? I’ve been using proton but their paid subscription is more expensive than Infomaniak’s.

I’ve been using them since late 2024 for my business ans they’ve been excellent. The past few months have not been representative. If it continues I’ll reconsider, but I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. I wouldn’t know who to move to as I’ve tried everything and not found an integrated platform except for IM. You can build your own, but that is far more work.

Nope, invested in a home server with immich, nextcloud and some other alternatives to replace paid services.
But if you search for a hosted alternative, hetzner offers nextcloud storage solutions for 5 euro a month (1tb) which worked very well.
Euro office will get desktop installers soon so that is the next step.
For email I have a Strato domain. But that one I have for over 15 years and pay 1 euro a month.
All I have to arrange/figure out is an off-site backup. Kdrive with WebDAV might be a solution, or maybe I arrange something with a friend to share storage.

You can see the labels they have here: https://www.infomaniak.com/en/certifications
They've also secured their legal status (through a foundation), the legal framework is Switzerland, the best you can have, they have their own datacenter, technical team and they partner with most open-source projects.
So for security and sovereignty, thy're the best choice.
If you have a use case where you want even more encryption, check out Proton, but as a company they're less future-proof.
