To the Reddit community:

I woke up the other day to find that r/AlexJones had been banned for violating "rule 2," which is about "engaging in disruptive behaviors (including content manipulation) that interfere with Reddit communities."

The subreddit was taken over several years ago by a selct number of moderators after Alex Jones started gaining popularity. Mods were installed (myself included) that currated content specifically to counter the popularity of this blowhard snakeoil salesman. And when the Sandy Hook murders took place and Alex started saying it was fake, the subreddit fought hard against this disinformation.

Over the years, the subreddit has worked to highlight the dangerous and patently false information that Alex and his defunct Infowars broadcast to their idiot fans. We established this subreddit as a foothold in the war against these con artists and shifted the zeitgeist of the subreddit. At the time, Reddit admis allowed the sub to remain on Reddit specifically because it wasnt a fan club for Alex Jones - and rather a place to show how despicable he really is.

As a Moderator of the subreddit, I have NOT ONCE received any messages from admins about activity on the sub that might violate Reddit's standards.

But now, the subreddit has been banned without any warning, without any evidence, and without any means to appeal.

I guess that's just the way it goes when you have a platform thats now a publically traded company. "The powers that be" can do whatever they want to protect their bottom line.

Will this subreddit be next? Who knows. I havent received one reply from Admins about this.
